Yah they know something that's telling them that she didn't take off of her own free will.

What that is I have no idea, but obviously they think it was criminal in nature

They absolutely prefer to handle things internally when at all possible

This is definitely a very unique situation as like you I'd have to do some searching to find another case where this has happened, definitely not something that I can recall off of the top of my head

I just googled "Army CID reward missing person" and found that murder case MassGuy referenced, along w/ a 10k reward for a 1987 cold case homicide of a female soldier stationed at Fort Carson.

Agreed that this definitely doesn't bode well for her at all.

That reward $$$ appears to definitely signal that CID there has reason to strongly suspect foul play.

Crud.
Crud.

I'm now recalling the Erin Corwin case out of Twentynine Palms.
Hoping we're not looking at a similar scenario here.
For those unfamiliar with that case, here's Erin's WS thread:

I wonder who first noticed she was missing.
Her family isn’t in Killeen, so when and how did they find out?

As for unofficial “pings” Find My IPhone can be glitchy. My kids will be home and it shows their phone miles away.

I think her command would have begun searching for her after she didn’t return to work. That could have been several hours after she disappeared though.

The temp that day was a high around 86 I think. Could she have passed out, come to and crawled under a tree way out there?

In that event, though, wouldn't she call someone when she came to?

It sounds like she had her cell on her when she went missing.

Maybe her cell died.

She could have had a heat related incident and confusion sets in fast, even being able to process the use of a cell phone.

If her family owned a dog, I would beg that base to let her dog search for her. Heartbreaking to not be able to search.

Was that the case where that psycho tried to claim that he killed her bc she was abusing his kids or something? I vaguely recall it but can't remember all the details

It got up to 97 in Austin last week but that was on Friday. Eta: It is 60 miles away.

Interesting.

From the linked Heavy article above:

In response to questions about cameras at Fort Hood, multiple people have said on Facebook that there just aren’t many cameras on the base. In one discussion on The Ft. Hood Fallen, one person who was at Fort Hood a year ago wrote: “There aren’t many cameras. Just a fact for Hood. Red light cameras, perhaps, but surveillance? No.”
________________

If this is true, I'm appalled.

Fort Hood was the site of a terrorist mass shooting back in 2009.

One would think they would have at least beefed up their security cameras in the wake of that horrific event.

Being retired military and a runner ...I would go for a run on my lunch hour. I'd leave my stuff at my office, this was in Nevada when I worked out at Ordnance. Do my run, go back to work. She is a runner too according to family fb page, like so many of us military folk are/were. You take your phone running because your playlist is on it...You don't need anything else running on base...She was more than likely doing a lunchtime run and heading back to work. Met up with foul play in the interim. Moo MOO edited to add...if indeed her cc was used, she probably had that too to buy a quick bite to eat somewhere, don't need your military id to do that..for those that don't know, fast food places like Mcds, Burger King, etc are on all bases. Maybe after her run she was meeting someone to get a bite...thinking drive thru only because of covid restrictions...another Moo

Yeah, that creep who murdered EC was an absolute piece of filth.

As if killing her wasn't enough, he then had to try to assassinate her character when she could no longer defend herself, on account of he had shot her in the back of the head and tossed her body down an abandoned mine shaft.

Fortunately, everyone recognized him for the evil, sociopathic liar he was, and he was sentenced to LWOP.

Too bad he didn't get the DP.
He richly deserves it.

Yah I saw that info on that site earlier when I was scouring SM. Pretty shocking

One thing they do have though is an abundance of cameras at the gates

It would seem that they don't have a visual of her leaving the base in a particular vehicle or I would think their would be a bolo issued for the car she was seen leaving in IMO

That was an internal attack though, and didn’t come from the outside. Cameras would be in place to monitor secure areas, and base access points.

From experience, I am glad there aren’t cameras everywhere on bases.

I'm not totally convinced that this wasn't possibly an internal attack as well.

but i get your point

Listen. How many times I gotta' tell you:

Nobody cares how many Twinkies you emptied off the commissary shelves!

No shame in your game.

Well if it is foul play, then it is likely someone she knows. On a base that large, you can’t have cameras everywhere.

That doesn’t mean they don’t have useful video though.

I hope she will be found soon safe and sound. I live in Belton TX and Fort Hood is a short drive away. Vanessa is only 20 so is there a chance she went MIA from her unit, who knows... I am sure MP are checking BF and questioning everybody. It is unclear if she lived on post or off post.

Temple here. I believe that KWTX posted the first article about her missing and they said her barracks room key was missing so I’m pretty sure she lives on post in the barracks.
