Spacey I spent my entire adult life in the military. From before I finished high school until I retired in 2015 (30 1/2 years), and I have never experience or heard of anything like this abroad or at home. It tears me up inside to think that one of our own could be responsible for something like this, especially when we're held to a higher standard. It's heart wrenching for me.

Thank you so much for your service @ImDone! We are very thankful and appreciative. I completely understand how you must be feeling.

Other peer soldiers are going to know if she was at roll call or not.

I am still trying to understand all this....a previous post says she was not supposed to be there that day? Maybe that is why the roll call was marked present?

From the perspective of a former soldier, marking someone present when they are actually not could be for a number of reasons.

Sometimes, after doing specific details like 24 hour staff duty, the soldier has the day off the next day which could prompt for her to be marked present, maybe not "physically present" but "accounted for". This is often used when squad leaders report to the platoon leader in formation "all soldiers accounted for" be it standing in their ranks, or be it they are accounted for because they had a previously scheduled appointment for that morning that they were attending, etc.

A second reason could be that she may have not been physically present when she was supposed to be, but her leader marked her present and intended to contact her immediately after roll call to ensure she was OK. Most of the time, the soldier is perfectly fine, but may have had some unfortunate events happen like locking themselves out of their house/car, or other situations where they may have a valid reason for missing the formation, and a valid reason for not being able to call in and confirm their whereabouts.

Tim Miller of Texas Equusearch tells me the remains were found three feet away from where they found items he calls “evidence of Guillens disappearance” last week.

He says the remains were found in a shallow grave that was so well concealed, Texas Equusearch and Texas Rangers in the area last week did not notice it. He says they found the grave this week, because it appears animals began digging. He “thanks God” for them.

Wow @MassGuy! You called it!

Wow @MassGuy! You called it!

I didn’t think the killer dismembered her or anything, as that is rare on the whole. The only other option is that animals scattered the remains, which is why they’d be described as “partial.”

We knew it was a shallow grave already, thanks to Tim Miller’s description. I imagine they’ll find most of her in the ground.

wow it's crazy they were so close to her. So it was probably a tip that brought them out there the first time, but they just missed her. :( RIP Vanessa.

I was wondering about who would try this case and asked about. This is what I was told -
If a soldier abducted and killed her while both were on Active duty this will be a federal crime and a military trial.
He can look forward to spending a long time in the military prison at Fort Leavenworth Kansas if found guilty. Moo.

Yeah, the military doesn’t play. This killer is potentially looking at capital punishment too, although it’s not carried out.

Well concealed shallow grave where the experts even missed it... Must have taken some time and skill...:(

Main thing is.... No good time (1 day a year.) 60 years is 60 years - not 10 after redeeming riduculous reductions.

I think it was rushed. My guess is the killer pulled to the side of the road, dug a grave as fast as possible, and got the hell out of there.

It’ll be interesting to know exactly where the grave was located, and how accessible it was.

They just searched there, there's a shallow grave 3 ft from where evidence was found... possible someone moved the body because that area had already been searched? It seems very strange that Tim and TES wouldn't have seen the ground disturbed or any other indication there's remains close to them. JMO

Two months had passed. There would have been new vegetation growth, and the ground probably looked intact.

As for why her belongings may have been in the arms room:

If I read correctly, she was supposed to have the day off. Unfortunately, for an armorer, if you are not on official leave or far, far, away from the unit, the arms room must be opened by you or one of the other very few people who have access to the room. I speculate that she was called in to open the vault, which means she will also have to close the vault at some point too. Its not unheard of for an armorer to lock their items inside of the vault if they are taking a quick walk away from it. This could imply that she was fully intending on coming back.

Big question is this: Were the items found inside the armory, behind the spin lock and massive door? Or where the items found before the lock and door? If found behind it, this implies that she locked them inside and fully planned on returning for them, unlocking the vault upon return. If it was found before the big door and lock, then this could possibly indicate she was abducted before opening and unlocking the vault.

The last time a military execution took place was WW2 his name was Eddie Slovik not sure of his rank and he was a deserter from the Army.
Nadal Hassan the Fort Hood shooter was sentenced to death but he'll probably die of natural causes before thst happens. Moo.
