Tequila / Cargo theft foiled by Laredo PD Auto Theft Task Force! Charges Pending!
On September 19, 2018, a Theft of Property report (Cargo Theft) SJF was filed by a business in the shipping industry. The complainant stated that 1 pallet, containing 1,014 bottles of Tequila Patron, was stolen from inside a trailer.
On October 04, 2018, after several weeks of diligent work and continued efforts by the Laredo Police Department's Auto Theft Task Force (ATTF) to solve the recurring Cargo Theft, surveillance was set up after a male subject began advertising large quantities of Tequila Patron for sale on social media pages. The ATTF was able to track them down to a residence at 1900 Madison. ATTF investigators continued surveillance and conducted a traffic stop on a suspect vehicle which led us back to 400 W. San Pedro, where a consent to search was executed.
ATTF investigators were able to recover numerous cases of tequila from the residence. Along with the stolen Tequila bottles, one (1) .357 Taurus revolver, loaded with six (6) rounds, was located inside the residence. The scene was photographed and all the stolen Tequila bottles and cases, as well as the firearm, were seized. 2 suspects were later interviewed at the Laredo Police Department.
Due to that one Mr. Manuel Alejandro Martinez Fernandez, stated that he was illegally in the United States and also admitted to being the owner of the firearm, ATTF requested the assistance of the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). Mr. Martinez Fernandez was later arrested for Illegal Alien in Possession of a Firearm (Federal Felony Charge) under 18 USC 922 G5.
The investigation is still ongoing. The charges for the cargo theft are still pending.
