A woman is accused of repeatedly offering hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy an infant boy at a Texas Walmart, prompting the terrified mother to call police, the Messenger newspaper reports.

Authorities allege that 49-year-old Rebecca Lanette Taylor struck up a conversation with a mother at the big-box store in Crockett, Texas on January 13. The mother, who told police she did not know Taylor, had her two children inside a shopping cart when Taylor allegedly approached them.

Investigators say Taylor began commenting about the youngest child and asked the mother if she would sell him for $250,000.

The mother declined the offer, which reportedly caused Taylor to increase the offer to $500,000, KETK-TV reports. The mother was able to safely extricate herself from the situation and then contacted authorities to report the incident.

Lt. Ahleea Price of the Crockett Police Department wrote in an affidavit of probable cause that she got a call from the mother detailing what happened.

Okay, jaded old person here, maybe some judges need to see this article? The judges who set bail at $50,000 for someone charged with killing a child?

Thinking of the newborn placed in a dumpster in Hobbs, NM; the 1 year old beaten to death in Mohave County, AZ. The unborn twins doused with lighter fluid with their mother? Could this woman have walked up to those 'parents' with a wad of cash? Would we have a pampered baby instead of a casket? We'll never know, of course.

Glad this Mom had backbone & the ability to walk away! Well done, Mom!

Well now, @imstilla.grandma, this is quite a different bag of potatoes, isn't it? Damm.

So glad everyone of them is safe, but will the mom ever sleep well again? Bless her. And I hope she and her children remain nameless to the public forever. And how will mom and the children be able to go out and do things if that woman is at large? Driving a different car if possible, maybe the mom changing her hair-do, and keeping masks and caps/berets, etc., on herself and the children will help. What an absolutely scary situation. I also hope this scare doesn't keep her from doing the usual things she and the children want to do outside.

Hoping the other woman won't approach anyone else. She may indeed have a mental impairment or fixation about this, and may truly need help. Maybe she lost a child or a little brother who also had blonde hair and was about that age. SMH.

Ya know, it makes me now seriously consider some of these missing babies and toddlers without closure were actually trafficked or sold to desperate women or couples…

Tuff to think about but it has happened, we know it has. Children and babies have disappeared and have never been found...

I hope she wasn’t a stalker. How many others like her are out there? Scary!

The officer who wrote the affidavit went to Taylor’s residence to question her about the incident.

She told me that she doesn’t like thieves, then she stated I could speak with her attorney and to get off her ‘precipice.’ She slammed the door shut,” the affidavit said.

According to jail records, as of Thursday she had bonded out of Houston County Jail. Efforts by NBC News to reach Taylor for comment were not immediately successful and it was not clear if she had retained an attorney.

If convicted, she faces a minimum of two years in jail and a maximum of 10 years, under Texas Penal Code, and could face a fine of up to $10,000.

Texas woman arrested after allegedly trying to buy another woman’s child for $500,000 at Walmart

Disgusting.

Most people would just say, "Speak to my attorney"...but this lady tells the cop to "get off my lawn".

I don't know why, but I get the impression that this was a case of extreme stalking and bullying more than actually wanting a child. MOO
She thought she could bully the woman by insisting she had $500,000 to "buy her child". Maybe she intended to lure the woman into her vehicle, so she could rob her.
She sounds like total trouble and I wish they would lock her up and take the key!

I definitely tried to sleuth her but she is tricky to nail down. Seems like her prior last name was Bergeron.

she may have added Taylor when she remarried? Either way, In 2020 she sought guardianship of Taylor (an incapacitated person - her new husband??). It looks like it was contested. I hope she lost.

Her name also pops with a fake rental scheme and an eviction case… not sure. Google Image Result for https://bloximages.chicago2.vip.townnews.com/lufkindailynews.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/8/d6/8d6f05fb-d404-50f2-8c30-26ca4598cbb3/5b91f082309a5.image.jpg

He died later in 2020. (He was 28 years older than her)
I do not see any images of him with her.

Apparently she married in September 2021.

For awhile she ran a gig a business called BustierGourmet..She wore a bustier and cooked vimeo.com/45441279..looks like a "Real Housewives" wanna be clone.

She also was in a movie called https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1291150/in 2003. She played the "The Beautiful Woman At the Airport"...

So far, I can't find anything connecting her to Taylor besides the Probate and Guardianship case.

I try not to be judgmental about lifestyles of entitled women like this, but can't help it with this one.

According to a divorce record from 2004, she had two kids.

Gag!!!

Y'all are crackerjack! Didn't have alot of time, but I was coming up with nada. Thanks to you sleuths I know where her accents from.

JMO this lady didn't want a baby for herself for certain. That sketchy past?

Sorry, ummmmm BustierGourmet? Good lookout, and entertaining. She's connected to all types of folks.

So glad mom and kids are safe. Scary stuff.

They need to investigate to see if there is any connection to any baby rings...illegal activity etc.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid they won't..

However, since this occurred in such as public place and on camera, this could be an escalation of what we've seen with bold, bad behavior that we've been seeing stores and airplanes since Covid began. (Maybe mom was moving too slow in the checkout line, so RLT bullies her with "I've got money and you better sell me your kids") RLT also has DUI records.

I think they should charge RLT with something else too, this poor mom will never feel safe again. The charges in this case are too small for the crime. I'm afraid RLT is just gonna get a slap on the wrist.

I don't know if RLT received a sizable inheritance from Mr. Taylor, but I feel mom should sue the pants off of her.

I wish I didn't agree with you, but I do. I'm afraid nothing will come of this.

Let's hope something does come of it, or she might end up just taking a child at some point.... :(
