Found Alive TX - Richard 'Rick' Rue, 26, El Paso, 26 May 2017

  • #21
My goodness. Mind is racing.

Rick's parents Bob and Lisa are incredible, loving people. There were/are 10-12 of us helping search. The youngest was a high school girl who was sharing info on Instagram so I asked if they minded me sharing on WS. They said it was fine.

This situation is dire. This is not the first time Rick's illness has caused frightening episodes...it's the 9th. Lisa said this most recent period of time (didn't catch how long) was the longest Rick had ever gone without problems and he was doing SO well. Then he quit taking his meds...

They tracked his debit card purchases through many places in CO and NM before he got here, but no activity in days. They gave us the most recent surveillance photo they have and Rick is quite disheveled. Tip this morning took Bob to a 7-11 a mile or so from his truck and the EPPD met him there to go over the footage. Don't know if that panned out or not.

We've got a group text message going and I'm keeping up until I can get back over there. I met a man who swore he saw Rick downtown and it looks like the leads are taking us in that direction. Maybe the bus stations or a place called the Opportunity Center (they assist homeless/people down on their luck for whatever reason).

Sitting here glued to my phone hoping and praying for good news, like now. These sweet people need to find their precious boy safe and take him home. Please please please...

You have had quite an eventful day! I really hope the lead pans out and Rick is quickly located. Thank you so much for doing this for Rick!

Oh gosh, I wish I could do more. I hate that I'm sitting here on the other side of town right now but you do what you gotta do. Things seem to be moving quite fast right now, oh how i hope he's found soon. Looks like they're heading to the Rescue Mission next.

Seeing a mother with tears in her eyes, saying that she's afraid her son might be unconscious in the street somewhere...my God. No words. I'll let y'all know more when I can...

Rumor
His medical condition severly impairs his judgement and thinking.

Rumor
His medical condition severly impairs his judgement and thinking.

You are correct Lisa, not a rumor. According to his mom Lisa, Rick is a completely normal, happy, well-adjusted young man...until he stops his meds. That info is also on the Missing Pieces flyer, I believe. From past experience, they feel at this point he is no longer able to care for himself in any form or fashion, possibly not even coherent.

Sadly, we have not found Rick. This has been an eye-opener for me. So many things that I guess I just never thought about before, like how false leads take you in the wrong direction and that takes up valuable time. The problem is you can't just rule something out. The tip from the 7-11 this morning didn't pan out, at least in the fact that Rick was not seen on the surveillance footage. The wife of the man who saw him there was one of the ladies searching today, and I feel that it probably was Rick and he just didn't go in the store. The man only saw Rick in the parking lot.

I had two people, in different areas of town, tell me they were SURE they'd seen him. Both sightings were downtown. Other folks heard that Rick had tried to buy a bus ticket this morning (didn't pan out) and that he'd slept at (a certain place) last night. There could be something to that, so his parents are going to drive by there tonight and hope he shows up. One of the sightings I got was from a lady who said he'd been sleeping in a particular alley so they are going to check there, too.

I don't want to say too much, simply out of respect, but I learned that there was an indication JUST prior to Rick's leaving that all was not well. I'm sure it frightened them terribly. Bless his sweet heart, Rick is a very sick man right now. If I thought driving around all night would lead me to him, I would do it. I kind of don't know what to do. Rick's parents are going to text us all tomorrow and hopefully there will be a new plan.

Kind of O/T but not really, I want to give a HUGE shout out to El Paso. We all sat around talking this afternoon about how friendly El Pasoans are. I didn't encounter a single person today who wasn't polite, caring and concerned. Didn't matter what language they spoke, what they were doing, everyone stopped to listen. That made my heart smile just a tiny bit. Rick's parents also said everyone has been very gracious to them. There are still people in this world who care, thank goodness.

Many hugs, prayers and warm thoughts going out to Lisa, Bob and the rest of their family and friends. They are great people going through a horrendous experience. I'm not going to lose hope that we WILL get Rick back to them safely.

Lighting a candle until Rick finds his way home. :candle:

JMO, MOO, etc. since there are no links for much of this

Edit: I've rewritten this several times, omitting a lot of specifics to protect the privacy of the family. Ideally, what is written on WS would stay on WS but that's not the case. I'd hate for some yo-yo to put out info in their blog or something. Sorry if it's a bit choppy though.

Thank you for the update! I know it is hard to stop looking, but you are doing the right thing by getting some rest and regrouping tomorrow. I will keep praying for Rick and his family for a quick and positive resolution.

This is going to sound creepy weird, but I did get creepy hot today as I was hoofing it through the streets. I kept thinking "if pink (or so and so) were here, we'd get a lot more done". You could drive and I could hang out the window and blanket this city with flyers, or vice versa. I needed to chuckle about something in the midst of the sadness and desperation.

Really though, nothing but mad respect for you seasoned Sleuths and all of those who do this full time, like Missing Pieces!

Tomorrow is a new day and I hope it will bring good news. :heartbeat:

Rest will aid your judgment and thinking. I hope you can get some, Lobe. Our prayers continue on.

A huge thank you to you, bessie, for adjusting the thread a bit last night. Many thanks to you as well, Paddleboarder, for your help with the flyers and for all you've done for Rick's family. I'm very emotional tonight. I feel a tremendous joy having met such wonderful people today, knowing that we did our best, but also an incredible sadness.

Thanks to everyone here who I've learned so much from, both in knowledge to put into practice and also compassion for those suffering such heartache. What a mighty fine bunch we have here at Websleuths.

:loveyou::offtobed:

ETA: Just received word that the man sleeping in the alley was not Rick. I'm sorry that it wasn't but I'm also glad they found the person so they aren't left wondering...

I saw where his sister had posted of Rick entering or leaving a store caught on security camera.

Also, did his truck have gas and appear to be mechanically fine?

My sister is a mental health professional who covers a large hospital in EP. I am going to send her the information on Rick so that she and her colleagues can be on the lookout in case he comes in and is disoriented.

Been praying for Rick and his family today.

I ran across this thread that sounds like similar circumstances (off meds, lack of good judgement). Hoping it provides some ideas on where to search. Just a thought. Is there a certain type of food he likes to eat/restaraunt he might try to get a meal from?
http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?330839-TX-Iryna-Rybalchenko-31-Fort-Worth-8-Feb-2017

The question about food/restaurants is a great one, and one that I would have asked until they described Rick yesterday. The picture they painted was one of a man who has been wearing the same clothes since May 26th, doesn't have a dime to his name and may truly be unaware of his surroundings and incoherent. I'm sure it's possible he might take food if someone offered, but I don't think he's capable of seeking out something he likes. Based on the description of the course his illness takes, I feel he is quite leery of people and may be trying to avoid them as much as possible.

I did ask this yesterday. His truck is in perfect running condition. My understanding is that he walked away from it and it sat there, unlocked with the windows rolled down, with his belongings inside. No one bothered it in any way. I'm not sure the exact amount of time it sat like this, but I'll say a day later it was noticed that the windows were rolled up. It is believed Rick himself went back and did that. Since then, nothing. I think that must have been last Sunday, the last verified sighting.

These are the surveillance photos from the convenience store that you are referring to. I got them from both Rick's parents and the wonderful folks at Missing Pieces.

Thank You, LaborofLobe!
Rick reminds me of my oldest, he is 27 and adhd and sometimes struggles with day to day life.
My heart goes out to his parents and sister. I hope he is found safe soon.

My understanding is evening time at Burger King, first and then last seen at the store that same evening where he left his truck.
Did he buy food at Burger King?
Did he go looking for his wallet perhaps? Was his wallet found in the truck? Was he seen alone?
I understand you may not want to answer all questions asked.
I apologize if these questions have been already asked and answered but reports from msm in a lot of cases seem to change.
