You sure you have your information right? The only Rita Mae Hughes I see as missing, went missing December 6, 1986, and at the time had been living in Magnolia, TX, Montgomery County, not Magnolia Springs, TX.

She is listed at the doenetwork.org.

YES,SAME WOMAN,WRONG YEAR..I live next door to the missing woman brother.He Pastors a church here.PLEASE HELP ME find the man i asked about.HE had researched and found a dead woman in KANSAS that may have been RITA.We all know her husband killed her but don't know what he did with her body.So this man is important to find.HE was on one of these boards.i lost his ihnformation.GOD BLESS and thanks!

No, that's not the same case. It's this one:

DoeNetwork removed the case thinking that it was the case that had been matched to Lynda Jane Hart. In fact, Lynda had been matched to a different case:

AFAIK, DoeNet has still not reinstated casefile for the Lincolnville Jane Doe.

Hughes was last seen at the Trailways Bus Station in Houston where her husband left her to catch a bus to see relatives in Louisiana. Her husband stated she was irrational, crying, and confused. Family in Louisiana stated that Hughes never arrived.

Her mother reported her as a missing person on December 19, 1986. Rita Hughes has not attempted to contact any family members since her disappearance. Her last known address was in Magnolia, Texas.

Bumping up with Rita's pictures:

Hughes was last seen at the Trailways Bus Station in Houston Texas on December 8, 1996. Her husband dropped her off at the depot so she could catch a bus to see relatives in Louisiana. Her husband indicated that she was irrational, crying, and confused when he last saw her. She never arrived Louisiana and had never been seen or heard from again.
Her mother reported her as a missing person on December 19, 1986. Rita Hughes has not attempted to contact any family members since her disappearance. Her last known address was in Magnolia, Texas.
Foul play is suspected.

Height and weight are close and both were wearing large framed glasses. Rita was last seen at a bus station, so she could've traveled anywhere.

I've been working on cases lately where bus stations are part of the case somehow. I have to say, I am noticing a pattern in several cases where the husband claims he dropped a wife off at a bus station, yet there's no proof of that.

I think that in this case again the husband knows more than he tells... I always think that if they do not want to arouse suspicion they should cooperate with the police, stay alert, call the relatives, etc... but I feel that they want to feel, there is no adrenaline from knowing Yes it could be considered suspicious... in this case it seems that he wanted to make it disappear because it is very easy for no one to see you and say I left it in this or that part and then it disappeared... never to hear from it again... It could be that she had an affair with another woman or she was actually kidnapped never to be found again...

My mother married Rita’s husband, John after she disappeared. I grew up with John Hughes being my stepfather. He told us Rita suffered from schizophrenia and would often take off unannounced and return days later. John and Rita had a son named Mark who is presently incarcerated. Rita had a son from a previous marriage named Travis who is doing well residing in East Tx.
John told me about dropping off Rita at the bus station when I was a teenager. When I was 16 my mother left John bc of his drinking and verbal abuse. He passed away a year later from alcohol poisoning. That was 1998 or 99. I’m now 43.
My mother told me years later that she thought John could have done something to Rita but he never confided anything to her. He persistently held to his story that he dropped her off and she vanished.
John had a brother whose name I’ll not mention but call him Tom. Tom passed away about 10 years or so after John from brain cancer.
My mother told me that John’s son Mark, my stepbrother, had become violent and hard to deal with after we left and especially after John died.
John’s parents, Marks grandparents took him in at age 17. After several outbursts and threats from Mark towards his grandparents, Tom told his parents that if they wanted, he could “take care” of Mark and make certain no one would know what happened.
Hearing my mother tell me about this… which she heard from Tom’s wife, led me to think there is a strong possibility either John, Tom or both could have had something to do with Rita.
Anyhow, would love to hear thoughts.
