A trial date of February 21, 2022 is anticipated for Freddie Lee Smith, one of two men Austin Police Officer VonTrey Clark, 32. hired to kill his 29-year-old pregnant girlfriend, Samantha Dean, in 2015.

Dean was a victims services coordinator for the Kyle Police Department and Clark, who was the father of her unborn child, pleaded guilty to capital murder in exchange for a life sentence in December 2019.

The third man, Kevin Watson, is awaiting trial.

To keep their memory alive, Kyle PD asked the city council for approval to name two spaces in its new public safety center after Dean and baby Maddie.

Barnett says Samantha was selfless and cared so much for the victims she helped. He hopes, in naming those two spaces in Sam and Maddie’s honor, a part of her will live on and will continue to help victims.

The Rememberance Event celebrated the dedicated work and service that Samantha Dean had offered the community of Kyle as their first Victim's Advocate. It is ten years from her and her unborn daughter's life being viscously taken by ex-Austin police officer, Vontrey Clark (father of unborn daughter), Kevin Watson, and Freddie Smith. The event allowed for the public to view the soft interview and waiting room that has been named on behalf of Samantha and Madeline. This room provides a safe and comforting room for a person or persons to go to which may be at the worst moment of their life/lives. She was a wonderful person and her spirit will forever continue through at the Kyle Police Department.
