I was quite surprised not to see anything about this here. In short, Robert Robinson, who was diagnosed with autism in 2018, was convicted in 2002 of the "shaken baby syndrome" death of his toddler daughter, Nikki, and sentenced to death. In the meantime, some people have examined the evidence, and yes, he's always denied that he ever abused his daughter, but in this case, it appears that he was probably telling the truth.

The Texas Supreme Court has put an indefinite stay on his execution for now. I personally think, based on what I know, that an innocent man has been in prison for 23 years for a crime that never happened.

Today’s filing calls the CCA’s attention to its own recent decision in Ex Parte Roark, announced on October 9, 2024, just a week before Roberson was scheduled for execution. In that case, the Court overturned a conviction based on the same dubious “Shaken Baby Syndrome” hypothesis supported by unreliable testimony from the very same “Child Abuse Pediatrician” who testified for the State in Roberson’s trial 2003 trial

Roberson, 58, could become the first person in the U.S. to be put to death for a murder conviction tied to shaken baby syndrome. He was convicted of the 2002 killing of his 2-year-old daughter, Nikki Curtis, in the East Texas city of Palestine.

Prosecutors argued he violently shook his daughter back and forth, causing severe head trauma. His lawyers and some medical experts say his daughter died not from abuse but from complications related to pneumonia.

I don't know if he's innocent of his charges, but I don't think he should be executed, because doubt exists.
