TX - Shanna, 36, & Diederik Vandewege, 3 mos, slain, Fort Worth, 15 Dec 2016 *GUILTY*

Horrible. May Shanna and Diederick rest in peace.

What I don't get about this type of criminal is how they think they can get away with murder. That holds particularly true with this case.

Yes. My next door neighbor works there.

As i stated earlier, this is definitely a Laci/Scott Peterson type case. The difference being, Texas don't play whereas California does.

I pray mom didn't have to witness her baby's throat being slashed.

old sparky to the rescue, what is it with a criminal that would even consider murder 1 in Texas? plus 20 years of brutal summer heat with no a/c. Only a bonehead would commit a capitol offense in Texas

Do you know for sure that CV worked at the new Costco near his home, Angie? I've been trying to get confirmation of that since the case first broke. But, the only source I can find is SV's dad saying that CV worked at Costco.
I have information from a good source that has confirmed that it is indeed the Costco he was employed at.

Read the article above the arrest for speeding/no insurance. It says BBM: "Fort Worth homicide detectives obtained a capital murder warrant for Craig Alan Vandewege Thursday, just hours after the 35-year-old Fort Worth man was arrested in Glenwood Springs, Colo., for allegedly speeding and failing to show proof of insurance."

Thank you and everyone else who explained it to me. I totally missed that

Due to how he looks in the booking photo and judging by his bizarre statements to the store clerk and the officer who stopped him I would say he was high on something and might have planned to kill himself.

I have a hunch it will turn out that he was very controlling.

GLAD he is caught.

I read somewhere earlier a reference to two condoms specifically.

sounds like something my ex would be capable of doing. After our only daughter was born he turned into a monster with an excessive appetite for sex. He was always on the Randy side but he became obsessive after our girl was born. I was told he was just jealous and it would pass, well after 14 more years for a total of 18 years it did not pass and I divorced him. Im lucky he did not do this to me. Perhaps my only saving grace was I worked for lawyers and he may have not felt he could pull it off. He's way too selfish to risk prison

True. I bet the ME knew immediately and likely LE did too an approximate time of death based upon the scene and investigative findings. With all those guns and ammunitions, it would have been less cruel to have just shot them too or better yet shot himself as well. More likely the medications were part of his addiction given the circumstances made public thus far.

Who posted the info about the sale of their Colorado home? Can we get more details on that now that we can sleuth him? Wondering if that money was part of his motive.

I would add "stupid" to your adjectives for him, if your theory is correct. He would have to know that toxicology tests would reveal the drugs in their systems - thus undermining his staging the scene as a murder by strangers.

Besides, he could have skipped the throat slitting altogether, and just overdosed them both until they were dead, making it look like a murder/suicide carried out by his wife.

I guess the other option is that he did drug them to make the murder easier, and then slit the throats to make it appear to be an external murder, knowing he would eventually be caught once the toxicology came back. But that would buy him a month or so of time to walk around free and carry out whatever plan he was cooking up for those items in his trunk.

Maybe only a bonehead and/or a narcissist.

Of course facts may prove otherwise, but if she was aware of the impending attack on herself or on her baby, I believe she would have some defensive wounds*. IMHO she was asleep (or drugged as another poster theorized) when she was ambushed.

(*perhaps she did have defensive wounds and it hasn't been released to media.)

Wow. Just saw he was arrested. What a piece of crap he is. I'm disgusted he could do this to an innocent child. So sad. May he rot in hell.

I do agree that Craig should have a lawyer with him for police interviews. They will be relentless trying to "slip him up", or get a false confession, especially since it is too early to have forensic testing results back. And, yes, police are only human, regardless of their training, tunnel vision on this case is a big possibility.
I would want to leave the house and be with family if I was faced with two murders occurring in my home. Just a constant reminder of the horror that took place, and killed my family.
Also, police stating he " lawyered up" and was not cooperating, most likely that is their opinion. Right now, he's faced with the loss of his family, a funeral, the holidays, living in a location away from extended family, and probably returning to Tex., alone, going back to work, and if I were him, selling my house, because I wouldn't want to be there. And probably when this is all over, getting the heck out of dodge!
