FORT WORTH, Texas (KXAN) — The man who told police he found his wife and 3-month-old son dead with their necks slashed last week has been charged with capital murder in connection to their deaths.

Fort Worth police say on Dec. 15, Craig Vandewege, 35, called 911 to report that he discovered their bodies in the master bedroom. When officers arrived, they found Vandewege in the front walkway crouched down with his face in his hands.

sounds like something my ex would be capable of doing. After our only daughter was born he turned into a monster with an excessive appetite for sex. He was always on the Randy side but he became obsessive after our girl was born. I was told he was just jealous and it would pass, well after 14 more years for a total of 18 years it did not pass and I divorced him. Im lucky he did not do this to me. Perhaps my only saving grace was I worked for lawyers and he may have not felt he could pull it off. He's way too selfish to risk prison

The Star-Telegram report stated that CV told the arresting officer he had his wedding ring and numerous condoms in his pocket.

Then, the Dallas News report stated that CV had his wedding ring and two condoms in his pocket.

In either case, it's messed up, IMO.

I'm relieved he's in custody and don't believe he was planning to kill himself. He could have done that anytime without having to trying to make a run for it with condoms, at least 4 firearms, and a bunch of ammunition.

I read upthread that he reportedly has a new attorney, one who specializes more in criminal defense than divorce and custody (which seemed to be attorney Barrow's main area of focus). That was a fast change-up, and one that would make sense under the circumstances.

I still wonder if CV had been working with Barrows prior to the murders. Now I also wonder if she dropped him when it was revealed that he told cops 'his attorney' advised him to leave the state, remove license plates, and use a burner phone..... or if he'd instead already moved on to attorney Gordon.

I do agree that Craig should have a lawyer with him for police interviews. They will be relentless trying to "slip him up", or get a false confession, especially since it is too early to have forensic testing results back. And, yes, police are only human, regardless of their training, tunnel vision on this case is a big possibility.
I would want to leave the house and be with family if I was faced with two murders occurring in my home. Just a constant reminder of the horror that took place, and killed my family.
Also, police stating he " lawyered up" and was not cooperating, most likely that is their opinion. Right now, he's faced with the loss of his family, a funeral, the holidays, living in a location away from extended family, and probably returning to Tex., alone, going back to work, and if I were him, selling my house, because I wouldn't want to be there. And probably when this is all over, getting the heck out of dodge!

This may have been stated, and I understand chiming in while catching up on previous posts, but he has been arrested.

Would not be surprised if this coward doesn't kill himself in jail. Who kills a 3 month old. This guy makes my skin crawl. Hope some inmates get some time alone with this guy. I hear baby killers are real popular in prison.

Do they not understand that they'll be the #1 suspects if their wives/girlfriends are found deceased? In this case, did CV think that he'd be able to convince the police that some crazed killer broke into their nice home in a nice neighborhood, ransacked the place, and killed a mother and a 3-month-old baby? I don't understand the missing piece of wiring in the brains of these criminals that bypasses thoughts like " I could get caught and then I'd spend the rest of my life in jail."
