TX - Shanna, 36, & Diederik Vandewege, 3 mos, slain, Fort Worth, 15 Dec 2016 *GUILTY*

  • #481
According to the affidavit, investigators suspect Vandewege cut the throats of his wife and 3-month-old son prior to going to work on the morning of Dec. 15, then staged the crime scene to look like a burglary. Police found evidence that someone had cleaned up blood from the sinks in the master bedroom and kitchen, the affidavit states.

Just wow.

CV did a terrible job trying to stage an intruder/robbery scene, was late for work on the day of the murders, refused to give LE his cell phone because it was an "intrusive" measure, etc...

He told police that because work has been stressful, he takes a daily anti-anxiety medication.

Shanna died in her bed with little Diederik next to her in his bassinet. :( No defensive wounds.

CV told investigators that money was tight, with the birth of his son and his wife quitting her nursing job to care for the baby. He said, however, the couple had recently sold their home in Colorado and were looking forward to the money situation improving. Yeah, sure CV, sure.

I wonder if LE has recovered the expensive jewelry CV claims was stolen? Effin ahole.

So he went to Texas by himself to set things up for relocation. Then his Colorado house supposedly sold weeks before the murder.

But why bring the family down if you didn't want the family?

Geez.

Why do guys decide to kill mother and child instead of just living free and pay child support and alimony?

Good grief.

Its easier to hide your money from child support if you simply get a off the books job.

So why do these idiots kill just to spend the next 100 years in prison?

Btw. This happened in Texas. So he will get the death penalty. Jmo.

I felt the first time reading this tragedy that hubby was the guilty one. This couple were newcomers to the city, had a new baby, so doubtful they had made many friends, if any. What stranger would be breaking into their home and committing such a horrendous crime? The odds were too far off!

Now, as far as this new medication and him hearing voices, I doubt that too! He is just using excuses to point away from him taking any responsibilities for their murders. IMO.

This is just my opinion, but I bet this marriage was a shamble that was kept a secret. I cannot imagine how a husband can be a good man to his wife and then start having these dreams of killing her and their baby. Why did he not call his doctor to report these unusual dreams? He had to know they weren't right!

Of course, who knows what the truth is? Are the dreams of killing his wife made up? Are the voices made up? We may never know since one part of this marriage is gone and not able to speak up for herself as to what went on in their household.

RIP Shanna and little Diederik

Wonder if he had life insurance on her

He's selfish and soulless, IMO, and probably considered his wife and child would be baggage in his 'single guy' lifestyle if he got a divorce.

I won't be surprised if you were right upthread, DexterMorgan -- that CV went to Texas first, got all settled into living like a bachelor and liked it.......and wanted it to continue. What to do, what to do?

Also won't be surprised if @cvaldez1975 was right and CV had a 🤬🤬🤬🤬 or sex addiction.

Is there an Amber Frey in the picture? That wouldn't be a shocker either.

He sure will, unless her family asks for them not to pursue it, or it's agreed that he won't get it if he pleads guilty.

I don't know why these men would rather kill their families instead of paying child support, either. If I knew my husband wanted to kill our daughter and me just so he could be "free," I'd hit the road and not even bother trying to get any support if he agrees to sign over all parental rights. The only thing I care about is my daughter. He can have every single thing we own, all he'd have to do is say he wanted us dead. I'm sure every mom feels the same way. These men not only don't want families, they also don't want to be viewed as deadbeats, so they kill their families in hopes of looking like a victim instead. Makes me so angry.

Agree. I think this dirt bag was having the time of his life in Texas before his wife moved in.

So he killed them. But was so sloppy and had to go on the run.

The co-worker - maybe they did tell someone and nothing was done about it. We've seen it here before, haven't we.

Now I would almost bet he had something to do with the miscarriages too. Maybe they were due to physical assault. Maybe he threw her down the stairs then.

  • #492
He will be tried in Texas. That's the only positive thing I can think of concerning this waste of oxygen!

  • #493
Yeah, the ward for the criminally insane at Rusk sounds like the perfect place for him! That way, we won't have to pay for his execution. Some pt in lockup will do it for the state, free of charge!

There are also herbs that cause miscarriage. Some herbal teas warn pregnant women against using because of the risk of miscarriage. So, those herbs would be easy enough to obtain at a health food store and put in her food. JMO

bbm

Money was tight. Of course. But he still bought Shanna diamond earrings. And they promptly got stolen by the intruder who did this, oh wait, it was the voices in his head. Hrmph. Being a sucky liar is the least of this 🤬🤬🤬' problems.

The ultimate in selfish. Shanna and Diederik had the right to live their lives with or without Craig.

  • #497
As i stated earlier, this is definitely a Laci/Scott Peterson type case. The difference being, Texas don't play whereas California does.
RBBM
IMO, you hit the nail on the head. I wanted to give CV the benefit of the doubt at the beginning. But, when I saw his email addy linked to dating sites, I began to suspect this was another Scott-Laci Peterson situation. Very astute call on your part.

CV probably won't face any firearms charges in addition to the two counts of capital murder he'll be looking at.

Haven't seen anything to indicate he had a criminal record, other than a 7-year-old DUI noted in the local Post Independent paper.

Snip:
Glenwood police said Vandewege had a concealed weapon permit from Weld County, and a check by the Post Independent for a criminal record turned up a 2009 arrest for driving under the influence in Commerce City. http://www.postindependent.com/news/texas-homicide-suspect-arrested-in-glenwood-springs/

The local paper also confirmed that the funeral for Shanna and Diederik Vandewege is planned for Tuesday, Dec. 27.

It will be held at the school gymnasium in Walsh, Colorado, a town of about 500 in Baca County in extreme southeastern Colorado, according to an obituary notice.

I'm so glad CV was busted before the funerals.

Sometimes a 150 lb dog licks a stranger-intruder's hand; other times a 5 lb teacup pooch runs off a trio of home invaders.

"The family’s two dogs were found secured inside a room of the home."*
Here w two dogs in the home and no defensive wounds on Ms V, LE would have wondered whether the dogs had barked to alert her or whether they had attacked the perp. Now w CV's arrest, less of a mystery.
