Great news. It sounds like he went in and confessed. I hope he told them the entire story. Now I am wondering why he wanted the child hearing postponed if he knew he was going to confess today and be in jail?

Wesley is being held on a $1 million bond at the Richardson City Jail.

Because they found Sherin. His hand was forced. Hence, the story changed.

Maybe the other person was someone who helped him who was not the mom? We figured he was getting help from someone considering that culvert was checked day 2 and she was found yesterday in a second check.

I dont think he had any problem getting in the pipe to hide Sherin's body. The police I am sure had to go in to recover her so if they could access the pipe culvert...so could he.

Actually at the end the reporter says, will there be anymore arrests or something and the sgt said

"YES you might see additional charges against another PERSON ---"

This wouldn't surprise me (though I'm not knowing *who* that person is, yet). Just had to be at least one accomplice.

I don't know if ya'll have seen the one picture floating around of Sherin and her sister together. But it tore me up. Her older sister had her arm around her and looked gloriously proud of her darling little sister. She is another victim of some major evil going on that morning.

Maybe but whatever he said caused them to arrest him and put him under a million dollar bond so it certainly wasn't in his favor whatever he said to LE. Many, even in cases like this, never confesses even when they know the evidence is stacked against them.

The spokesperson also said the DA's office was there to aid them in what to charge him with, so I feel the evidence must match his story. It will probably be an accident and he panicked, but that still is injury to a child. BBM

The charge LE gave him seems very flimsy compared to murder or manslaughter.

I agree with those who commented that mother was going to be arrested. Now it makes sense why he didn't want the bio child returned to Mom this morning at the hearing - that seemed odd.

What is the delay in the parents identifying little Sherin? That is an odd factor isn't it? Most parents are so glad thei missing child has been found, someone in the family goes as soon as possible to identify them.

To think LE and other agencies have spent two weeks searching for this child, and she was just down the street. They deserve a round of applause for a job well done!!

In any case, if this is *the* culvert, no....I don't think the stones came in with the rain water from Saturday's rains. You'd need some pretty torrential flooding to carry those in. IMO, JMO...

As I sit here shaking inside , I can't help but wonder if he is implicating his bio daughter .... I am so creeped out by this man and seriously struggling with that . His mugshot picture just haunts me. Not a kind person I don't think .
Did the little girls share a bedroom ? And how far away was the room mom was sleeping in ?

“Sherin Mathews Case Update 10/23/17
This afternoon, Wesley Mathews was arrested and charged with Injury to a Child (TPC 22.04), a first degree felony punishable by life or from 5 to 99 years in prison. Mr. Mathews voluntarily arrived at the Richardson Police Station with his attorney and asked to speak with detectives. He provided an alternate statement of events from those which he had given previously, regarding the disappearance of Sherin.
Wesley Mathews is currently in the Richardson City Jail and his bond has been set at $1,000,000.
We are still awaiting a positive identification from the Dallas County Medical Examiners office for the child's body found yesterday, believed to be Sherin Mathews. #sherinmathews”

I wouldnt be surprised either but maybe not if it is a cash bond like some Judges demand. He could have a bails bondsman bond him out and would only have to put up 10% I believe.

LE does not decide bond, the court does.

Mom is a mandatory reporter at the very least, if Sherin was in an abusive situation with dad.

He would have received less time for a manslaughter charge. With this charge he can be sentenced up to 99 years.
