Our town's storm/flood drainage system is like what's shown above. Water flows into the access areas, through a series of underground tunnels and then out through a large culvert into a small creek on the outskirts of town.

I've never known a culvert to do anything but run under a road or driveway, but I guess we'll find out.

I believe that endangering/abandonment resulting in death is now a required a termination. I know that abuse resulting in death is and of all future children bio or otherwise. Also, newer laws now require an active permanency plan within 1 year of social services custody so termination of parental rights come much sooner. If the child is in costody a year with no significant consistent parental progress to meet the departments requirements (i.e. parenting classes, clean random drug tests, employment, housing, removal of dangers or threats, more) termination proceedings begin.

I know that's how it's supposed to work (one year resolution). Also, there can be concurrent plans--one for permanent removal and one for return, in order to not go back to square one if things don't work out. However, I have known of families with longer cases (or perhaps serial cases). Even a return to birth mom following multiple years with a foster family.

Re: endangering resulting in death--good to know that this can result in termination. But at this point in this case, we don't have those final dots connected, and they may or may not be. Just in support of why WM would want/need an attorney in the family court issue.

BTW--enjoying your participation here. I am also an adoptive parent, although my children have now survived to adulthood. I used to go to an adoptive families retreat. Several strong memories stand out. One is all these adorable little toddlers (looking like a mini-United Nations) being followed around by exhausted but happy parents. And then there were the parents of adolescents who always looked like they were leaning back and thinking "just you wait!" And then there was the reaction during any of the speakers, if the door in the back opened and someone from the child-watching folks stepped in looking around, you could see all the parents getting their things together in anticipation of being the one being called out to come deal with some situation. Very special times!

There has been a video made on "Find Sherin Matthews" page made by AJ. You can see the sun from the other end and she says she is 5'2" and she sorta gets inside it. Said she thinks she could crawl all the way through it.

Can we link to page in order to post screenshots or no?
Probably not so, I can't share them. It really does help to understand the size of the tunnel/pipe

If she had been tight behind the second rock with the black pajama pants she was supposed to be wearing I can see someone not seeing her on quick examination. Unless you had 2 people with lights on both ends it would be easy to miss something her size partially clad in black. JMHO

I have forgotten and can't find it, what was the temperature in Richardson that night when all this happened?

Looks like Weather Channel lists a high of 86 and a low of 69 for that day

Born, abandoned and taken in by the poverty sisters of Mother Teresa in Bihar state in NE India, Sherin was adopted on 23rd June 2017. Her name prior to her adoption, was Sarasvati. https://www.hindugallery.com/goddess-saraswati-images/

The National Commission for Women in India have vowed to look into the case.

Adopted on June 23, 2017? How many different versions of this adoption is out there?

It was pretty warm. We had a string of 95 degree days and I think two cold fronts bringing the temps down from that for a bit into the 70s and 80s. Pretty typical Texas fall weather.

Article says: “Sherin was adopted June 23 of last year by Wesley and Sini Mathews, an American couple of Indian origin, from Mother Teresa Anath Seva Sansthan, a nonprofit in India's Bihar state.”

Meaning 2016.

I watched that. It makes me wonder how in the world she got in there? I think it will all depend on what she was wearing/wrapped in, etc., when found. I can't imagine a three year old brave enough to walk through there in total darkness, but how in the world did this situation come about? What was she wearing when found?

There is so many dates, I can't even remember. LE says adoption happened in July 2016, I assume they have papers that state this. It's pretty confusing with all the different outlets saying something different.

Thank you. Just trying to visualize conditions for her walking away from the house on her own. If it was cold, she could have been looking for warmth, but if it was hot at night, I don't think she would have wandered away.

I dunno, kids surprise us all the time. We don't think they would do something, but they do. They prove us wrong. How many of us were shocked to hear of an 8 year old or 12 year old child murdering another?

I know when my kids were growing up, I'd say or hear other parents say "my kid would never do that." But then they do?

I've known a lot of 3 year olds who have no fear. I don't know little, precious Sherin's behaviors to be able to categorically state she wouldn't do this or she wouldn't do that.

The father is still guilty, if nothing else but his own admission he set her out there.

Well done! I just found this report, which has drainage information for Audelia Branch in appendix B. Looks like it has directions of flow. I just don't have time right now to dive into it, so posting it here in case you do, or so I can come back to it later! https://ftp.dot.state.tx.us/pub/txd...ainage Reports/Final Drng Dsn Report-West.pdf

Thanks, and thx for the link! Just got back in and will take a look, at least until my eyes glaze over. (The things you learn researching cases, sometimes... I'm not a natural in the sciences, but specific questions will get me reading up on things I'd never normally be interested in.)

Oh no, I hope not! I can't really see how wide the opening is but that could explain why she was not found during previous searches and came to be found in the culvert. Pull along the street, park in front of the sewer, in the dark...I definitely hope not because that is beyond my comprehension...you (or someone) kills a child and just stuff the body down a sewer...nope..can't go there in my mind. moo

Or maybe there are some items down that sewer that might be connected to the case. JMO, speculating.

Agree with Inthedetails--it'd be my first guess that LE were looking for something related to the case that may have been purposely dropped down into the sewer (this is a sewer near the culvert where she was found). Possibly even looking for a murder weapon if they're headed that direction, theory-wise. (A knife or other puncture-type weapon?)

While I've heard of kids going down storm sewers over the years, these ones on Spring Valley and Bowser look like they have openings too narrow to allow the head of a child to pass through. JMO, though; I may be mistaken.

Thx, osu...whose Twitter account did this photo come from, please? (TIA)

A couple of scenarios ran through my head. She was chased to that location where she was killed and then dumped inside in haste (I only say this because that is a pretty brazen place to dump a body with the houses near by)
Or ( I hate typing this :( ) she was thrown in. THink of someone holding her by something (clothes or sheets) close to the ground and swinging back forth and then releasing..
Or, like already mentioned, someone could have used something to push her farther in

Apologies changed my post to 2016. The linked MSM had the date.

I've counted 5 so far:

June 23 of 2015, 2016, and 2017; also July 2016 (per TNM article) and "summer" of 2016.

That last is a safe bet if she was born 14 Jul 2014 and the Mathews have had her a little over a year.

I don't think this had any thing to do with her not drinking her milk. I believe this has to do with her wetting her bed and it would explain why he was washing clothes in the middle of the night. I think when he seen she had wet her bed he hit her way to hard and killed her and came up with this cazy story about the milk thinking no one would blame him for killing her

Exactly, why in the world hasn't someone pinned down this little angel's birth date and adoption date yet? Dang.......................
