Mom is a mandatory reporter at the very least, if Sherin was in an abusive situation with dad.

I have never seen parents included as a mandatory reporter. Is that a Texas thing? Usually folks covered by mandatory reporting laws are professionals (teachers, counselors, health care workers, etc) who can lose licensing or certification if they fail to report.

Not arguing that relatives are not responsible for intervening/reporting, on grounds of morality, concern, etc. Just that mandated reporter laws were created for a specific purpose--to involve more adults in the web of responsibility.

FGS! She cant be standing by her man can she? Why wouldn't she cooperate in any way she could?

Going back to her first attorney's statement, she was cooperative and it cost her her older child. Imagine something like this, LE asks her if dad has ever struck one of the girls and she says, well, he spanks them when they misbehave. Maybe sometimes too rough.

Mom could be between a rock and a hard place. If she shares any suspicion that Dad was ever too rough with the girls, which is helpful, cooperative information, then suddenly she is in the spotlight for not protecting them. And loses her other child.

Not because she's a Mom, because she's a nurse...

She's reportedly an RN.

This is the only thing I could see her being arrested for, but they would have to prove she knew.

"Failure to report suspected child abuse or neglect is a Class A Misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment of up to one year and/or a fine of up to $4,000."

"All persons are required to make the report immediately, and individuals who are licensed or certified by the state or who work for an agency or facility licensed or certified by the state and have contact with children as a result of their normal duties, such as teachers, nurses, doctors, and day-care employees, must report the abuse or neglect within 48 hours'

Poor little Sherin, :tears:

It’s so heartbreaking. The cases involving children are particularly distressing here you just wish there was a way to protect them all from harms way.

She was so close to her house. I know it's not a popular theory but I am wondering if she could have wandered over that way. People often under estimate how far toddlers can travel. I feel horrible for the mother. Both daughters taken from her right now.

While I don't believe the case to be here, I have seen in the past here on WS where toddlers/kids wander far (the little one in Ontario even took the elevator down several flights in the middle of the night, and thank goodness surveillance captured it or the parents might be in jail right now...then this baby found someone's backyard, curled up and died from the cold....many others I can name...again, no I don't think that happened here but it DOES happen. When Malik disappeared I did several studies on this.

Might Sherin have been autistic?

I think WM likely killed her, like MR killed Dylan, likely a blow to the head IMO. JMO. MOO. Maybe he hit her hard and she fell and hit her head and died.

I think he is confessing to as little as possible given what is a known, provable fact. At first, he confessed to leaving her outside but nothing more. When she was found (with injuries, I'm assuming), he confessed to injuring her. But....he's not saying anything else because he doesn't have to at this point.

He's not going to confess to murder before the ME announces the child was indeed murdered.

BBM.

Agreed. He thought his original story would actually fly and that would be how he would get away with this. His story will move when needed.

I suspect she might be an abuse victim herself, could be wrong.

Yeah I'm thinking he hit her too hard as well. Frustration...? (Not an excuse at all!) I mean... what else would be "injury to a child" that caused her death. Everything else seems to calculated.

Good point and interesting.

How many Indian women live on this block/neighborhood?

My gut is telling me this woman had noooothing to do with harming this child. If I am wrong, hang me out to dry. Moo.

  • #739
Maybe she convinced him to adopt this child.

I feel strong maternal vibes and if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

Eta: moo, jmo, imo.
