So.... you would be willing to visit violence on someone because you disagree with what they believe.

Thank you. I'm sure learning a lot on this thread.

I haven't see a single person on this thread say that the shooters' actions were justified.

If it's wrong, immoral, and irresponsible, does that make it okay to shoot them? Idk. I just know anti-free-speech views when I see them.

Oh awesome, now you're putting words in my mouth to argue against, in finest straw man style. What an absolutely brilliant way to debate a topic, well done.

I'm not anti free speech, I'm anti ignorant, racist a-holes. Including the ones in this incident. All of them. And the people who are supporting them. And the horse they rode in on.

So, this is okay:
Does that make it a right, moral and responsible thing to do? Idk.. I just know a racist idiot hate group when I see one. No matter what culture they're from.

But this isn't:
If it's wrong, immoral, and irresponsible, does that make it okay to shoot them? Idk. I just know anti-free-speech views when I see them.

Gotcha.

I don't see it that way at all.

Gotcha.

I was not putting words in your mouth. Can't tell the difference? Gotcha.

Wow .. j/k .. pretty obviously I'd suggest!! Although I do think baiting extremists is pretty darn stupid.

snipped for space

I am NOT saying anyone deserves to be attacked for voicing their opinions.
I am questioning where the line between "free speech" and "hate speech" is drawn, both in the law and the minds of the public. Especially where it's clearly set up to incite anger.

I don't know where the fine line between free speech & hate speech lies, but our US Supreme Court does decide . . . lots of precedent out there supporting peaceful assembly & freedom of speech

I don't follow any silly Islamic "laws", so I totally support the cartoon drawing contest -- it's irony! Not hate

as a Christian, I'm offended by MANY things in this fallen World, but I sure am not going "jihad" on anyone <3

Don't you think the cartoon competition was specifically designed to cause controversy, that's pretty obvious, I guess they wanted attention, I guess they got it.

I would think she would be offended by Pigman cartoons by Bosch Fawstin no?

I don't care what or who she's offended by, as long as she doesn't start shooting people for holding beliefs that she doesn't agree with.

Ok, I fell asleep reading social media on this and now have read some more and Im beyond upset with some of my fellow Americans.. I cannot believe the number of people who are saying this event should have "expected" this.

Who said they should have expected it? They were expecting it. They paid $50,000 to have a fully armed SWAT team ready for them when they showed up.

wow the irony continues . . .

I don't have to be a Muslim to see the cartoon contest for the steaming heap of racist provocation that it is.

I am really glad you're a decent human being and won't be going "crusades" or "witch hunt" on anyone. The majority of Christians, like the majority of Muslims, would probably agree with you.

RBBM Let's not call out radical Islam for fear of offending. We can bury our heads in the sand and hope they go away. Believe that if you want to.

Problem with this POV is, these "radical" groups (ie, violent, ignorant, hateful people) are just as offensive to the majority of Muslims as they are to anyone else.

And those cartoons aren't just offensive to "radical" Muslims. They're offensive to peaceful ones as well. It's loathsome hate speech, the end.

Do Geller & deserve to be shot? No. Were the cops doing 100% the right thing, in protecting their lives? Of course they were.

But trying to make out that what that group were doing isn't blatant hate speech designed to provoke violence is just an exercise in fail.

Yeah, they knew the terrorists would be unable to refrain from violence. They shouldn't have drawn such provocative cartoons.

I'm convinced. I see it now. They shouldn't have cartooned so provocatively. Thank you for enlightening me.

I'm fairly certain that almost everyone in America, Australia etc. believes that free speech includes the right to speak incendiary and provocative words without the consequence of violence. However, Gellers, Wilders and others put themselves in a group that a lot of people don't want to identify with. Like it or not, people aren't going to rush to their side. But that doesn't mean their detractors are anti free speech or anti freedom.

Exactly. One half of me wants to high five them for standing up for the First Amendment, but the other half of me knows damn well that they would not stand up for my First Amendment rights if I wanted to draw anti-Jesus cartoons.
