Agreed. The probability would most likely be somewhere in the same neighborhood of the probability of the Olympics being bombed by a radical Christian as a protest against abortion, I'd wager.

That would be as unlikely as that same person then bombing a gay nightclub and then an abortion clinic.

Because that would NEVER happen.

Yeah, they knew the terrorists would be unable to refrain from violence. They shouldn't have drawn such provocative cartoons.

Which is exactly why although I heartily support their right to draw offensive cartoons, I don't really feel all that sorry for them. Doesn't mean I don't think they shouldn't be allowed to do it. Even obnoxious idiots are protected under the First Amendment (and the Second, God help us all).

What does this have to do with the two jihadists planning a massacre on U.S. citizens? Which last time I checked was the topic of this thread. Are we now trying to wink and nod at one group of terrorists because of the actions of another group?

Nothing like furthering intelligent discourse by slinging pejoratives. Victim bashing seems to be ok now if said victim disavows your worldview.

Just from the past couple of pages of this thread, we have this name-calling:
obnoxious idiots
ignorant, irresponsible racists
cowardly and sick
racist idiots
racist idiot hate group
ignorant, racist a-holes
steaming heap of racist provocation
loathsome hate speech
blatant hate speech designed to provoke violence
a pile of racist idiots
racist ignorant bigots
racist ignorant bigots (yes, again)

And in the spirit of "she shouldn't have dressed so provocatively" we've got these comments:
clearly set up to incite anger
baiting Muslims
baiting extremists
I guess they wanted attention, I guess they got it
They were expecting it. They paid $50,000 to have a fully armed SWAT team (along the lines of "She was expecting it; she wore an extremely short skirt and tight sweater")
designed to provoke violence
deliberately provoke .. as if to wave a flag and say 'Hiiiiiiiiiiii here's us, hey we're mocking the prophet
they blame the people they provoke for reacting
I don't believe that event was designed for anything but causing a ruckus. Irresponsibly so.
that is what the organizers of the event wanted

These are all from just the past couple of pages. This thread is a perfect example of exactly why there needs to be more events like this cartoon competition. My next contribution might just be to Geller's group. Not because I necessarily agree with her, but because the core fundamental right of free speech is so overwhelmingly important that we must stand up to and defy the efforts of the hateful, totalitarian, repressive fascists who would leap at any opportunity to suppress the speech of anyone with whom they disagree.

I am shocked and appalled at the hateful, bigoted rhetoric I've seen on this thread. I'll defend to the death your right to spew such vitriol, but I will use every peaceful means at my disposal to deny you the pleasure of shutting people up because you disagree with them.

Exactly! I don't understand this thread at all. I don't know this woman from Susan or Kathy, but I don't care WHAT she says. What's more alarming to me than someone who is perceive as a bigot(those come a dime a dozen) is the lack of concern that in the US someone was attacked for holding a cartoon contest mocking a religious figure. I would think that would be alarming to everyone.

This is America. I don't care if you don't like something. We have free speech. Free speech should never be met with violence here. We have the protected right to be great humanitarians or giant asshats at our own prerogative. We do not reserve the right to inflict violence on others.

In regards to the actual perps in this case, could we consider discussing them instead of the political motives of their victims? Let's discuss the fact that by all means one of these men was a KNOWN terrorist supporter. Why would a terrorist supporter only receive 3 years probation? That is completely unacceptable. My HS friend who got busted making fake id's got 7 years federal probation.

I think it's time we turned this thread from a back and forth on the victim to why this could happen so easily in America with someone who was a KNOWN terrorist supporter!
