4 children, 2 adults dead in Spring-area shooting
Six people, including four children, were killed and another adult wounded Wednesday afternoon in a shooting at a suburban home in Spring, and a suspected gunman was cornered in a cul de sac a few miles away after a short car chase with police officers.
Harris County Precinct 4 Assistant Chief Deputy Mark Herman said three children and two adults died at the scene of the shooting at a home in the 700 block of Leaflet Lane. Another child died after being airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital, and the condition of an adult also flown to the hospital was not known.
Herman said that authorities responded to a report of a shooting at about 6 p.m., where they found a woman and child who had both been shot in the head.
The woman was able to tell officers that the shooting arose from a domestic dispute, involving "someone who had left the family."
According to Herman, one of the two victims transported to Hermann Memorial Hospital, a young girl, had died.
Herman said that one of the victims, who had been shot in the head, told emergency responders that the shooter was a relative and on his way to shoot other relatives.
Authorities were dispatched to the home of the relatives, who live near Anvil and Ponderosa Drive.
"As soon as they got over there, he came driving up, and that's when the chase started," Herman said, crediting the information with saving their lives.
