I've been following this horrible tragedy. This a$$ dressed up as a FedEx delivery person....made two attempts to enter the residence under the guise of delivering a pkg/asking for the parents but the daughter (who luckily survived) realized he was her ex-uncle and refused to open the door. he then broke thru the door and tied the kids up, then waited for the parents to come home! How utterly terrifying for all involved. I feel so awful for the daughter who is the lone survivor. What an awful crime.

Just last week, Karla Jean Haskell, Ron Haskell's mother accused her son of domestic violence in San Marcos, California.

Court records reveal that Karla Haskell claims on July 3, her son got angry at her for talking to his ex-wife and duct taped her to a chair, with her arms taped as well.

According to ABC 13 the domestic violence report claims Haskell accused her son of choking her until she lost consciousness and that she stayed taped to the chair for four hours.

Indeed, according to court records, Haskell once had a restraining order filed against him by his ex-wife and had been considered a threat to their children, court records reveal.

Haskell was looking for his ex-wife, Melannie Haskell, when he forced his way into her sister's home, tied up her famiy and shot them all.

I just saw this. Unbelievable. http://abcnews.go.com/US/texas-shooter-ron-haskell-choked-threatened-mom-week/story?id=24512009 "There is no record of Haskell being arrested for the alleged assault on his mother." WHY NOT?

This is such a horrible story and one that hits close to home. My sister knew this family and said they were a very close knit and kind family. They lived in the same neighborhood. One of the girls was in the Daisies with my niece and she used to run up to my sister with a giant smile and would give her hugs when she saw her. The 13 year old boy was autistic. My nephew and his friends would walk him to classes every day. He is devastated by this unspeakable loss. My sister said the mother was very involved with the kids and the school. We read about these horrible crimes all the time, but when it's hits close to home it's really difficult to understand, especially when children are brutally murdered! Thank God the oldest daughter had the wherewithal to "play dead" and prevent the murders of her grandparents. I pray she recovers and am sad that she has lost her entire nuclear family. I can't imagine what Katie's sister is going through and wonder where she was. Prayers for all of them and those who knew the family.

Was the sister living with them? What about the sister's kids?

Snip from article (minor's name edited to initials by me):

Thomas Stay also revealed that CS, 15, the sole survivor of the shooting, is now out of the Intensive Care Unit and is conscious
.
Great news!!! That's a good sign that she's out of the ICU already! I'm sure she has a long physical, mental, and emotional road ahead of her. My prayers go out to her and her family.

From the link.

The man who allegedly shot dead a married Houston couple and four of their children in an execution-style killing on Wednesday was jealous of their happy life together, claimed the children's grandfather.

Speaking to Mailonline from his home in Sun City, California, Thomas Stay said that Ron Haskell, 33, envied the life his son Stephen had built with his wife Katie and their five children.

According to Thomas Stay, Haskell couldn't accept his separation from his ex-wife Melannie - Katie’s sister - and chose to massacre his son and his family because he was ‘jealous of Stephen and Katie’s family and what they could have that he didn’t have’.

Sounds like Ron Haskell had extreme envy. He reminds me of Elliot Rodger, Seung-Hui Cho, Jodi Arias, and Lori Drew. They are consumed by envy.

Cassidy's emotional well being is a completely different story from her physical injury. I would be way more concerned about her mental and emotional well being as is it will be a tough road for her.

Creepy to think he was in the San Marcos, CA area just last week. Police were looking for him around the area just last week! On the local news now, it's reported that another family member, in addition to his mother, filed a report on him. Updates to be reported on News8 later.

How I wish they had caught him last week. What heartbreak he caused so many people.

Hallelujah :) Except she has no family left :( What a little trooper. I'm so sad for her.

This is so awful. When we were watching the standoff coverage last night, I think it started to feel like a movie, and we didn't know the details of the murders yet so (speaking only for myself) it was easy to fixate on the standoff drama... The police vehicles, the robot, what is going on with the guy in the car?

And now I've had time to read the details, I feel sick and I really do wish he'd just shot himself. And I don't express that kind of vindictive sentiment here often.

According to News8, his own sister filed a restraining on him last year fearing he would harm someone. I hope all these family members don't blame themselves because they did what they could.

Then, "On July 3, his mother filed a restraining order against him after he reportedly choked her for talking to his ex-wife."

"A chilling Facebook post attributed to his ex-wife on Wednesday claims that Haskell had "followed through on his threats."

Sister or mother?
