I checked for all police reports along FM 685 from 19 feb 1999 to 14 April 1999 (when the second Statesmen article mentioning a pickup being burned was published). Absolutely nothing came up. Not sure where I should look for information about an abandoned or burned truck.

Pflugerville has a crime map and these show the FM 685 corridor, which today is better known as Dessau road. Still not sure where to look for info on burning trucks in the area back in 1999. Maybe a good start is any structures, homes, businesses in the area that have been there since then. But that areas been pretty heavily developed at this point. Not sure anything from 1999 is still around.
