"Two shots, one to the head and one to the chest" is the simplest death scenario to account for all of (a) death by gunshot, (b) puncture wounds, and (c) both head and chest wounds.
But it's also possible that there was only one gunshot (to the head, that killed her) and then the other is something else.
And there are plenty of other more complicated, more extensive scenarios that could work without contradicting what's revealed. The above just speak to the minimums but not the maximums of damage and means and wounds that may have happened.
The initial SW (day of murder) said she was "deceased from a head wound" and FBI ultimately told us she was killed by gunshot. The next day, after the autopsy, a SW noted "multiple puncture wounds found on her head and chest." In PCs, as far as I have seen, LE always declined to comment on her injuries.
