TX TX - Terri 'Missy' Bevers, 45, killed in church/suspect in SWAT gear, Midlothian, 18 Apr 2016 #49

I noticed the driver used their turn signal even when exiting the parking lot. To me it seems an odd thing to do if you are getting ready to break into a building. Like I'll break into a church but I'm not going to turn without using my blinker. I guess it could just be muscle memory but it makes me lean towards it not being the murderer. It looks to me more like someone being taught to learn how to drive.

What if the perpetrator wasn’t after Missy, but had a grievance against the church. Perhaps they had worked at the church, and were let go, and had a grudge. Or, maybe they felt that someone that worked at the church had harmed them in someway. They were destroying the interior of the church, and that seems very symbolic to me. I don’t think that this had anything to do with Missy, I think that she had the misfortune of bad timing.

Amateur opinion and speculation only.

In keeping with your theory, I myself have wondered if the intent of the intruder was to commit a break in in order to show how easily the church's current security could be exploited, as a push to get a more $ophi$ticated $y$tem. For how long that disguised individual was inside the building, well, hardly anything was vandalized. Remarkable really. It's like a slo mo movie of someone trying really hard not to do any real damage.

If not for MB presence and subsequent murder, when would the intruder have left? Daybreak? Wait until first staff arrived?

Or was someone going to review footage and be startled to see how effortlessly they'd been burgled, conveniently recommending a higher priced plan? Who would gain from that?

Could it be that a person like that was specifically targeting a rainy night, as insurance to anyone else being there?

Possibly caught by surprise when MB entered? Panicked, reacted, over-reacted, blungeoned/punctured/attacked, for fear of being found out?

In any other context, never a murderer. Not before, not after. Plagued with guilt but in no hurry to have either part of that exposed.

Maybe?

The car in the adjacent parking lot is really weird. The driver seems to be stopping at areas of the building where someone might be able to hide and conceal themselves. When they turned out of the parking lot to leave, they used their turn signal.

Does that tell you anything about who might be driving?

Could this have been 2 people, one inside the church, one driving the car? They cosplayed or burglarized places together?

RSBM.

About using the turn signal.

I overuse it. The explanation is long but comes down to "I think that "it is better to be routine-driven without traffic than the opposite: to forget it when in traffic." (People who feel very secure driving probably won't do it.)

It could be possible that someone gave him a lift, but then it could be either a friend or a relative (a brother or a mother). I don't think that they were cosplaying. I would think, the idea was compassionate, "poor guy is sitting at home all day, let him play his favorite police game when no one sees it".

One more thing about the gait: people who have acute sports trauma (e.g. torn meniscus when playing soccer) might walk like it.

Did they desecrate the altar in any way? Cause that would be my first stop if I hated the church and wanted it widely known.

Did the church have a summer camp or a youth group?

I think I commented years ago that to me it seemed like an action that someone does automatically. Someone who had been there before and hit that turn signal out of habit.

Can I get a fact check, please?

Am I remembering correctly that a bomb squad was called to the scene at some point?
Yes that is correct:

I'm open to the theory of two perps. It would give deeper purpose to the SWAT outfit as disguise and also to add confusion with there being more than one.

Is there any evidence?

Agree. They are affiliated with that church in some way.

Great question. I would like to have more discussion about evidence that has been released to the public.

Here is what a recent article said generally about evidence in the case.

Midlothian police Chief Carl Smith told WFAA in 2021 that investigators have released most of the information about the case, including the surveillance video of a person in tactical gear inside the church when Bevers was killed. But Smith also said police are still protecting some evidence, as it could help them down the road when an arrest is made.

The parking lot video that we have been reviewing in this case is from a store called SWFA Outdoor. The business is no longer operating.

The building address is at 5840 US-287 Midlothian, TX if you wish view it on Google Maps. When a driver exits this parking lot there is no traffic signal. They turn right onto the highway.

The car was seen in this parking lot at 2 am. according to this article below.

Going back to the method, it appears that Missy Bevers actually was shot, not attacked with a hammer.

If you search the FBI UCR website (Uniform Crime Reporting), only one homicide is listed for Midlothian County for the whole of 2016, and that homicide is listed as being homicide via gunshot. The FBI UCR site gives the homicide as being a white female aged 45, which fits for Missy.

The CSI report from Ellis County Sheriff's Office (which is available online) also states that a handgun was found at the church (though it seems unclear whether the report refers to Missy's own gun stored in her vehicle, or a different gun), and records that they asked a woman named Penny Rowley who was a WalMart security employee to search the sales records and security footage of WalMarts in three towns for sales or thefts of guns and ammo on a particular date. I don't know if I'm allowed to quote or link but googling "Missy Bevers" +"Penny Rowley" should bring up the PDF.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also confirmed at the time that they'd been called in to use a sniffer dog named Titan, who was trained to sniff out gun residue and gun casings.

The publicly released info says she died of multiple "puncture wounds" to her head and chest and that she was killed with something the killer brought with them. It's slightly cagey wording but doesn't rule out a gun.

The WFAA local news also ran a news report claiming that according to "sources" (WFAA didn't go into any detail as to what or who their sources were), police believed that Missy was targeted. This was local news so pinch of salt, of course.

A big question to me is, if SP knew about the inside security cameras, were they really there for the cameras. Doing damage so that church officials would be sure to check their cameras and see SP in his get-up. Almost a practical joke. But not a joke if caught and exposed.

I cannot believe this still isn't solved.

I want to hope that LE has evidence they aren't disclosing in order to not compromise somthing....this is the type of case that has so much evidence that they have to have at least an idea of who did it, even if they don't have enough for prosecution as of yet

Doubt it. If that person in the police gear was the perp, they're morbidly obese, and I'd say there is 0% chance they could have caught or cornered a fitness instructor outside...if the weapon was a gun, they might have pulled it off, but not, I believe, with a hammer or other weapon. Then again, if they were dressed in "police" uniform, they might have been able to get close enough for a strike/stab--now I'm unravelling my own theories, lol.
If it was something that was premeditated, perhaps they planned this for a rainy day purposefully so that MB would be less likely to be outside. JMO

I saw a video where a reporter said police say she was shot. Does anyone remember seeing that and where it can be found? I saw it only a few days ago but I think it was recorded shortly after the murder.
