MISSING: Timothy J. Perez, 31, of Conroe, Texas (3/5/22)

MISSING: Timothy J. Perez, 31, Conroe, Texas (3/5/22)

Conroe is the town neighboring mine. I wonder what he was doing in Austin? That's a 3 hour drive away. Was he visiting friends or family? Just taking a weekend trip? Was he driving or walking? I-35 is the main highway through Austin. Pretty dangerous to be walking near the freeway. Was he last seen during the day or was it night time? So many questions I have about this.

So, did he drive to Austin with a passenger? Did someone go with him on the trip? Why would his phone be back home 10 days later? I’m thinking either a “friend” went with him, did something and came back home or he(Timothy) wanted to disappear. This is strange and there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of information being released. JMO. I’m hoping he’s just hiding out and not the worst case scenario.

Austin police discontinues search for Timothy Perez. In Round Rock, case is still open | kvue.com

“The APD told KVUE that Perez was contacted by two local agencies: Round Rock and Cedar Park.

"Both law enforcement agencies deemed Perez was not a danger to himself and did not need medical assistance," the APD said. "Based on the interactions with both agencies, he was removed from our missing person database."

Despite the APD's statement, Round Rock police told KVUE its investigation is still open.

"Our officers encountered an unidentified subject on March 5 and determined this subject was not in danger or a danger to others," Round Rock police said. "Days later we learned it was Mr. Perez and we entered him in the missing persons database."

The RRPD noted that a representative of St. William Catholic Church had called in a welfare concern for a man loitering in the area that day. Officers met with that subject, who refused to identify himself but was eventually identified as Perez days later. He was issued a criminal trespass warning at the request of the church and he left the scene without incident.”

“He’s really bad with directions. So, I’m sure he got all turned around and he just got lost,” Sandra said. “He’s not familiar with the area. And so, in the process of getting lost, he ran out of gas.”

[...]

Timothy’s parents said he was dealing with some depression during the pandemic. They were told by police that he was last seen at St. William Catholic Church in Round Rock.

Round Rock Police said the church made a welfare concern call for a man in the area and officers met with him, but he wouldn’t identify himself and left. The department added that, days later, they learned it was Timothy.

Round Rock Police officials said they believe Timothy is voluntarily missing.

[...]

“We believe he is voluntarily missing based on our officers’ interaction with him — in which it was determined he was not in danger, was not a danger to others, was not committing a crime — and based on the subsequent investigation,” said Nicholas Olivier, public information specialist with the Round Rock Police Department. “We do not know his current whereabouts or status. Round Rock was one location in which he was spotted, but we have no indication he is still in Round Rock.”

[...]

Olivier said these types of cases, where they determine that someone is voluntarily missing, are rare.

He explained that they have received information that Timothy’s cell phone may have been in Conroe after officers connected with him at the church.

[...]

The family is working with Texas EquuSearch and hired a private investigator to help with the investigation.

If you’ve seen Timothy call 512-844-7933 or EquuSearch at 281-309-9500.

This is confusing. I wonder why anyone thinks he's still in the Round Rock area, if his phone has pinged back in his hometown? It would be an extreme coincidence if someone stole his phone in Round Rock and then happened to end up back in his hometown with it.
