A British inquest is taking place in the death of Lucy Harrison in the US.

A British woman who was shot dead by her father while visiting his home in Texas had argued with him about US President Donald Trump earlier that day, an inquest has heard.

Kris Harrison, who did not attend the inquest, admitted in a statement sent to the court that he had relapsed on the day of the shooting and had drunk about 500ml of white wine.
Littler said on the morning of 10 January his partner had asked her father during the Trump row: "How would you feel if I was the girl in that situation and I'd been sexually assaulted?"
Kris Harrison had replied that he had two other daughters who lived with him so it would not upset him that much.

Sam Littler was Lucy's boyfriend, and he was with her in Prosper.

The British inquest reached a different conclusion than the grand jury in Collins County:

Lucy Harrison, from Warrington in Cheshire, was shot in the chest on 10 January 2025 in Prosper, near Dallas.
Police in the town investigated the 23-year-old's death as possible manslaughter but no criminal case was brought against Kris Harrison after a grand jury in Collin County declined to indict him.
Family members were in tears during the hearing at Cheshire Coroner's Court as Coroner Jacqueline Devonish announced that she found Lucy Harrison died due to unlawful killing on the grounds of gross negligence manslaughter.

I agree. According to her boyfriends statement in the inquest, she was very upset about her father owning a gun. There's no way she would've asked to look at it.

My thoughts exactly! I don't understand why they use grand jury's in America in cases where it's quite obvious that a crime has occurred? It's bizarre.

I'm following a case that happened in LA last September...the body of a 14 year old girl was found dismembered in the trunk of a famous singer/rapper (D4VD) car. No one has been arrested and it's apparently going before a grand jury to see if there's a crime to be arrested for...like WTF? So did she chop herself up and put herself in the boot? It's madness!

"A lower court had previously denied their petition, and the 1st District Court of Appeals affirmed the decision on Monday.

The appeals panel set another hearing date for February 24, according to the recent filing."

So this was ANOTHER attempt by d4vd family to not testify. An earlier appeal had also been rejected. Wow.

I always thought the grand jury was used like GB uses CPS, ie approval that there is enough there to proceed with charges/trial, rather than to determine whether there is a crime. Prob wrong.

As I understand it, grand juries in the US can also be used as a means of gathering evidence in cases where witnesses are uncooperative, since people can be legally compelled to testify (although they can still refuse to answer questions under the fifth amendment)

Yes I think this is what is happening with the other case I linked above. One witness was arrested in Montana and dragged back to california to testify (they had not turned up previously). Now the family of d4vd have all filed appeals against having to testify. But I just find it odd that you can have a dead decomposing body in your trunk and not get arrested or even questioned for 5 months.

And now this guy shoots his daughter and the grand jury are just ok, never mind. I mean even if it was an "accident" (which I don't believe for a second) there should still be some accountability. Like why was the gun not locked / secured away? Why was he getting it out after drinking alcohol?
