Not good. I really hope authorities catch them before they make it into Mexico :(

  • #23
I hope so too, Kaylynn. But in all reality, they were probably in Mexico before the AMBER Alert was even issued. It didn't go out until over 24-hours after Mitchell's mother's body was found. They could have gotten to a border crossing in 6-10 hours, depending on which direction. But still, I hope they stalled and they can catch up to them.

The AMBER Alert program has been planning to have border states extend their Alerts into Mexico. They REALLY need to get on that.

checked up this a.m. to see if Mitchell has been found or the Yukon spotted somewhere....nothing so far.

I'm thinking like the others - they crossed into Mexico already.

Still on the flashing billboards along the highways here. I hope they find him soon!

Amber Alert continues for Denver City boy

A 3-year-old Denver City boy is still missing after his mother was found dead last Thursday. Monday marks day three of the Amber Alert for Mitchell Romero since the boy's disappearance and investigators say he was last seen with his father.

Veronica Esquivel Romero, 29, was laid to rest Monday morning, but family members won't rest until her son Mitchell Romero is found.

[snip]

Before her death, Veronica worked at the Family Dollar in town for about four months and coworkers say she was very close to her kids. "She brought in her youngest son all the time, when she could, and talked about him constantly," said co-worker Jessica Elms.

I wonder where her other child(ren) is/are and how they are doing? And if Mario is also the father. And where they were at the time.

I'm glad Nancy Grace is covering this, and that it will get some national attention. I'm still praying to God he's not in Mexico already, but, like the others, I've got a feeling that's the case. :(

I haven't seen any updates today on Mitchell's whereabouts.

KXAN News Austin was tweeting for news story ideas...I told them I want an update on Mitchell.

Maybe they'll do some investigating <crosses fingers> or at least keep his story out there!

They just said on Nancy Grace that the Amber Alert for this child has been taken down? WTF?

"The State of Texas deactivated the Amber Alert for the boy on Tuesday afternoon (10-20) although the boy has yet to be found. Denver City police are now treating the boy's case as a missing person. The changed in status will allow the police to focus more resources on the murder investigation. THe boy's mother was found deceased at the time the original Amber Alert was activated on Friday (10-16)."

This makes absolutely no sense to me. If your murder suspect and your kidnapping suspect are the same person...if you downgrade one part of the search, aren't you just hurting the other too?

And since when does a missing child not have priority over a murder investigation? ESPECIALLY if the child is with a suspected murderer?!

On Nancy Grace now. Maria Esquivel is on live (she is the sister of Mitchells mom) who found Mitchells moms body. So heartbreaking :(

I seriously don't get their logic here. They can't follow up on leads with an active AMBER Alert? Were they not handling it as a missing person case before?

Amber Alert Canceled for Missing Denver City Boy

NewsWest 9 learned on Tuesday night that Denver City Police decided to do away with the Amber Alert.

Now, they say they're handling it as a missing person case.

Police say they changed the status of their search, because it'll allow them to focus more time on the investigation, and they'll be able to follow up on leads much better.

Last night on Nancy Grace I heard just a bit of talk on the other children of this mother. I have read all the links provided in this thread but I can't seem to find any information whatsoever!! Were there other children in living in the home with Mitchell and his mom and where are these children now?

DENVER CITY—The brother of a Denver City woman allegedly killed by her husband spoke with Big 2 News exclusively about her death for the first time since it happened on Thursday. The reason he talked to Big 2 News was to send a message to other women that might be in similar situation to the one his sister was in.

"It was a domestic violence issue; it was a jealous husband,” said Veronica Romero’s brother.

<snip>

"The search has not been dropped for the child. We need to do something different, the Amber Alert is not being effective anymore," said Department of Public Safety Corporal John Gonzalez.

Gonzalez says Amber Alerts are designed for short time periods at a local level. Now that Mitchell has been missing for almost a week, he might not be anywhere in the area the Amber Alert is being issued. "We need to get it out geographically into a larger scale so therefore the Missing Persons Clearinghouse can help us do that, not just locally," said Gonzalez.

After being put on the Missing Persons Clearinghouse, Gonzalez says the search for Mitchell will go nationwide. Mitchell was last seen with his father, Mario Romero who is a person of interest in Veronica's death.
