When the state rested its case without calling what everyone assumed would be its star witness Friday afternoon, onlookers gathered in small circles to trade whispered commentary as they shuffled out of the 139-year-old Brewster County Courthouse...

Bloom was originally indicted for murder herself, a charge that was later dropped, fueling speculation that she had cut a deal to testify on behalf of prosecutors at McWilliams’ and Morrow’s trials.

Observers who have sat through more than four days of meandering testimony so far in McWilliams’ trial had hoped Bloom would be the one to tie it all together, to give shape to a senseless story...

The trial for Keith McWilliams, 50, began Tuesday, January 26, and resulted in a guilty verdict on Monday. A sentence of life in prison was handed down Tuesday.

A Brewster County jury unanimously found Charles Levi Morrow guilty of murder Friday afternoon after deliberating for approximately 45 minutes.

He was sentenced to 55 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for his role in the 2014 death of Trey Sands, a former Kilgore High School football coach.
