“We have been told that DNA testing results will be coming back ... hopefully soon. The remains will be brought back to Wharton County where facial reconstruction will begin with the assistance of the Texas Rangers,” Wharton County Sheriff Shannon Srubar said.

Jane’s badly decomposed body hadn’t been buried, instead she had been left lying in a secluded pasture off CR 225 about two miles south of the CR 216 intersection near Hungerford.

She was petite, 14 to 17 years old, with dark brown or black hair and still wore Disney cartoon shirts. The character Stitch from “Lilo and Stitch” with the word “OHANA” in blue was still visible as well as the images of coffee mugs and donuts on her shorts. She also wore a lightweight Love Tree brand jacket. No shoes were recovered.

There was nothing else. No purse, no identification, no money, nothing.

There are no runaways in Wharton County who have not been accounted for, no nearby missing person cases filed in during the time period which would fit the girl’s description.

The girl suffered multiple gun shot wounds to the head, the only apparent injuries on the body.

Robbery is an unlikely motive as her killer left three gold rings on the girl’s hand. The crime experts say she was killed sometime between September 2020 and March 2021, maybe, that is. No definitive date has been released.

“her killer left three gold rings on the girl’s hand”
So perhaps this is an actual engagement and wedding set?
If so, this screams teen or young adult bride murdered by her husband.

Have you seen these?

These items were found on the girl who remains unknown, if you any clues to the identity, please contact the Wharton County Sheriff’s Office at 979-532-1550 or the West Wharton County Crime Stoppers at 979-543-8477.

They still don’t know her name, who might be missing her or why on earth someone would ever dream of shooting her in the head.

Bumping. No reconstruction yet even though a whole year has passed.

I could've sworn she was ID'd. Must have been a false memory :(

I'm surprised she's gone so long without a name. I remember reading about her when she was first found. Hoping this poor girl sees justice soon enough.

It's been over 6 months, does obtaining DNA normally take this long?

Or longer.

Often it's not the test itself but the followup. If they get a match or partial match, they then have to locate the relatives (itself often a time-consuming task) and conduct another test to confirm the match. If there are questions of a criminal investigation, they often opt to withhold all information until that's resolved.

Bumping for this girl.

Earlier in the year I came across this Jane Doe case and the case of Joseline Mendoza-Lopez, a 14 year old Hispanic/Latina girl who ran away from Grand Prairie, Texas, In August of 2020 (I’ll link Joseline’s NAMUS page). I thought that she could possibly be the Jane Doe. I emailed the case owner of one of the cases (can’t remember which one) but I don’t know if they ever investigated it; and I’m not sure Joseline has ever been found. I’m going to take a guess and say no since her NAMUS page is still up. Joseline Mendoza-Lopez

What about Aubrey Olivarez? Wharton County isn't too far from San Antonio.
That could be a possibility. I have a feeling that the Jane Doe was from TX, or was staying in TX, maybe she had wandered off from wherever she lived/was staying? Since it seems like she was wearing lounge clothing/pajamas.

I was looking through missing girls from Texas on NAMUS and there are too many to name. If i find any cases that stand out I’ll link them here.

Wharton body remains update: Autopsy results could take months - Crossroads Today
It's been since July 2021 that LE announced that "The remains have been sent off for DNA testing to the University of North Texas, hoping to bring some more answers to this case. Captain Novak says DNA results could take as long as 6 months". It's November 2022 now!!

Backlogs all over. It seems that the funding didn't work to get a quicker turn around time.

Funds from this award allow UNTCHI to continue assisting agencies in reducing the number of forensic DNA samples awaiting analysis, maintain or reduce the average turn-around time of 162 days....<5.32 months>

My guess is they already have the results and are working behind the scenes or maybe even solved it. Can somebody explain why this girl isn't on this website or what I did wrong in finding her. TxDPS Missing and Unidentified Persons Online Bulletin

I am certain that the age range is based on skeletal factors, not the clothing, but just because it came up so frequently in this thread I wanted to stop in to say that I am an adult and have adult children of my own and I have Lilo and Stitch shirts and pajamas. There is nothing about the clothing that tells us how old this person was.

@othram
I'd really like to see this UID get her ID back and her killer brought to justice.

Maybe they did solve it. But if that was the case, why would her NAMUS page still be up? Maybe LE doesn’t want any information released at this time?

I left a vm for Sgt. Rodriguez with the Wharton County Sheriff's Office this morning asking if he could confirm whether she has been identified or if there is a known timeline for doing so.

That’s good to hear! Hopefully you’ll get a response soon.

Sorry to bump again, but I’m invested in this case now. Are there any exclusions yet? I haven’t found any.

  • #80
@Caring1 hey could you post the current NamUs exclusion list for this Jane Doe?
