Two people were taken to the hospital after apparently being exposed to a white powdery substance in an office building at 3200 SW Fwy. The 9th floor of the Phoenix Tower has been evacuated as HFD HazMat is responding to the scene working to determine the nature of the substance.

Authorities are investigating a piece of mail with a white powdery substance that was sent to Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-Texas) campaign headquarters in Houston, a spokeswoman for Cruz's campaign said Tuesday.

Earlier today, the Pentagon reported at least two packages received in their mail center had tested positive for ricin.

Ricin is a poison found naturally in castor beans. If ingested, it can be fatal.

Phoenix Tower has been evacuated, according to authorities.

Authorities at the Pentagon found at least two packages suspected of containing ricin, a spokesman said Tuesday, with the news coming amid a scare at Sen. Ted Cruz's office in Houston involving a "white powdery substance" that turned out to not be hazardous.

A Pentagon spokesman confirmed to Fox News that two packages -- addressed to U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis and the Navy's top officer, Admiral John Richardson -- are suspected of containing ricin.

The packages never made their way into the Pentagon, but were flagged in a mail delivery building next door on Monday, the spokesman said. Initial tests were positive for ricin, a poison made from castor beans, but the FBI is now doing analysis to make final determinations.
