TX - Worker who died after fall into S.A. brewery's smokestack "died a horrid death"

Whens the last time you were left alone all day on your 1st day on the job also I know thats not the case with me anytime i had a job..also falling to death come on I don't buy it .The harness ya i can see someone bran new taking it off it's usually the guys in between that wear them the older guys think there past and know how to work with out them and the younger guys are thinking the same thing so its the guys that have had or seen someone almost fall that wear them..Those harness's are exspensive too where ever he took it off is where he was below why didn't they just follow the harness and look down...It's all a little fishy to me

You may be right, but on the other hand, the bricks may have served as insulation from the outside heat. I don't really know enough about thermal conduction to say.

(Never mind. I see now that the coroner says the man died from the injuries to his head.)

If he was beating on the door doesn't sound like his head injuries were immediately fatal.

They said he died from blunt force trauma to the head. LE told family that it looked like he pounded on the door to get out. It also stated that they think he fell down the chimney by a long, difficult route. It looked like he took his shoes and harness off in the chimney. I found this all confusing. Then in the article posted above there was a photo of the chimney and it's 'door'. Go to the link and check it out. This door is easily accessible. Jmo to me, it someone could have easily hurt him and opened the door and put him in. Throwing his harness and shoes also. The article says the door was locked from the outside. I hope they dusted for fingerprints. It seems more likely he entered or was put in from the door. Jmo

Head injuries are not always immediately fatal. A brain hemorrhage can be sudden/catastrophic, or sneaky and slower, taking hours and rarely, even days.

Let's hope he just went unconscious due to increasing intracranial pressure (from the hemorrhage) and unconsciousness prevented much of his suffering :(

This is a picture of the brewery restaurant with the walkway leading to the smokestack. The smokestack isn't in the picture, it's off to the right. I just can't figure out why he'd be in the brewery/restaurant.

He was in the restaurant because it was being remodeled. He was to work on the roof.

Roofer's family still has questions about Pearl death (S.A. Express News)

“I want to know exactly what happened,” Leticia Diaz said.

All week, Diaz and her family have been hearing different stories via police reports, rumors and media coverage.

She said the stress of not knowing is making it difficult to grieve.
---
By Saturday, Diaz said she had expected to hear something from the contractor, Metropolitan Contracting, Co. or the Rio Perla Properties, which owns the building.

“Not even the worker who picked him up,” she said had come by or contacted the family.

He was in the restaurant because it was being remodeled. He was to work on the roof.

I meant why was he inside the restaurant/brewery. I've seen roofers working on roofs all my life, but I've never seen or known of roofers going inside the building. The article states he was a roofer, so he must have known the drill - get a ladder, take the materials to the roof, etc. There would be no reason to go inside the building that I can see.

Then he encounters barricades, so why would he crawl over and through them? I just find it odd that an experienced roofer wouldn't stop at the entrance to the barricade chute and ask himself "What? This can't be the right way to the roof." But no, he continues down the chute & drops off into the chimney.

And since this is his first day on the job, he hadn't had time to make enemies.

I think because it was his first day on the job, he could have been confused as to where to go. Sounds like the supervisor just told him to get to the roof, but didn't actually show him how to get there.

Could one of the other workers possibly be angry that outside help had been hired? Maybe they forced him to go this way? I know I'm stretching here but I just can't imagine why he would have done this.

Police didn't link two calls on missing worker (San Antonio Express News)
About 90 minutes before the brother of a Mexican roofer who vanished during his first day of work at the Pearl Brewery called authorities to report his disappearance, a friend and policeman scoured the grounds for the missing man, authorities said Monday.

Had an earlier, previously unreported emergency call, made by the friend at 9:47 p.m., been linked to the second call, made by Inocencio Victor Rodriguez-Diaz's brother at 11:10 p.m., police might have searched the construction site again Aug. 14, Police Chief William McManus said.

much, much more - Express News is doing a great job reporting this story - at link above

I am just haunted by this poor man's death. Not only the physical suffering he must have gone through, but the strange way he ended up there, plus now learning about the second call no one connected to the first :banghead: And why wasn't the smokestack and it's door checked during that hour long search of the place?

It seems like events just conspired to make it impossible for Mr Rodriguez-Diaz to be found. :(
