I agree with Steelman - Im not sure they were active participants vs. LW wanting to put some fire under RF. One interview I saw said that RF wanted to talk but his lawyer wont let him. Perhaps he can start demanding to share what he knows because otherwise those who he loves are going away for a long time thanks to him.

This all makes total sense. Once RF clammed up and went hightailing it to his attorney's office, the cops were left between a rock and a hard spot. Pulling his mother and sister into the mix along with a friend or two is going to prompt this punk to soften his tone a little bit. I don't know if his family members had anything to do with it at all, but pulling them in and putting them under hot lights is sure to put a huge amount of pressure on RF. This may be nothing more than a tactic to get him to open up. As usual, his lawyer is the knotted kink in the chain.

His mother and sister may well have shown up to help console him after the terrible ordeal he went through of having to beat his girlfriend to death and then hide her body out in the hills. Something like that takes a lot of home cooking, drinking, talking, and counseling to get over.

More than likely they are collateral damage and may not have had a hand in this at all, but by naming them as suspects and co-conspirators it puts the ball back in RF's court. Talk, or watch the people your care about the most go up in flames.

Just to be clear, his mother and sisters have only been named POIs which can just mean they may have information. It is not a legal term, but "suspect" is. Of course, they may be deeply involved but we don't know if they are co-conspirators yet.

Sometime around May 2016- Zuzu first dates RF (Multiple media reports after her Oct disappearance say he is her on-again-off-again boyfriend of 6 months).

1 May to August 2016- Zuzu worked with the Borderlands Research Institute and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to study the survival rate of pronghorn fawns in the Trans-Pecos/Marfa Plateau area.

June 2016- Zuzu made the Dean’s List at Sul Ross University

23 Sept 2016- Zuzu and 10 other students presented their results at the 2nd annual Borderlands Research Insitute Undergraduate Research Symposium. The symposium was held at the Turner Range Animal Science Center.

TUESDAY
11 Oct 2016, 5 PM- Zuzu tries to call her mom but her mom missed the call (Dallas Observer).
11 Oct 2016, Evening- Zuzu and her on-again off-again boyfriend (RF) went to the movies w/a group of friends at the Rangra theater.
11 Oct 2016- A neighbor of RF's at his apt complex said he heard the couple arguing/fighting the night Zuzu disappeared (WFAA, Star Telegram).

WEDNESDAY
12 Oct 2016- Residents last saw Zuzu on Harrison Street around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning just before she went missing (CBS7).
12 Oct 2016, morning- There was an unconfirmed sighting of Zuzu at Stripes Convenience Store with an unknown man (CBS7, Bigbendnow).
12 Oct 2016- RF was the last known person to see Zuzu (confirmed by APD to WFAA ABC News).
12 Oct 2016- ZuZu's dog was reported running around near her apartment on Wednesday with its leash on. Animal control came, found the dog and put it in her fenced yard (CBS7 video interview w/LE).
12 Oct 2016- Zuzu did not show up for a midterm exam at Sul Ross State University.
12 Oct 2016- Zuzu did not show up for work at Sul Ross Borderlands Research Institute (BRI).
12 Oct 2016- Texts and phone calls from Zuzu’s friends and family went unanswered. Someone checked her apartment but she wasn’t there (NBC News).
FRIDAY
14 Oct 2016- Zuzu's mother says that she still hadn't heard from her come Friday. She then called Zuzu's boyfriend, who said he also hadn't heard from her. Zuzu's boyfriend said she never showed up for her mid-term exam on Wednesday and she missed her shift at work. (CBS7).
14 Oct 2016- Zuzu’s mother called police to report her missing (CBS7).
14 Oct 2016- Zuzu and her friends were planning to go camping in Big Bend National Park on Friday just after mid-terms (CBS7).
14 Oct 2016- Zuzu’s mother tells CBS7 that her phone is dead. CBS7 tried to contact Alpine PD for comment on the story but a dispatcher said they were “too busy” and hung up.
14 Oct 2016- A family friend plans to put up missing signs in the Midland-Odessa area (CBS7).

SATURDAY
15 Oct 2016- Police report they have a POI but do not release a name (Newswest9).
15 Oct 2016- Alpine trash services limited in handling and disposal in case police need to go back to look for clues (CBS7).
15 Oct 2016- Zuzu’s father drives 7 hours from Keller and arrives in Alpine to search.
15 Oct 2016- By the time Zuzu’s father arrived in Alpine her friends had plastered her missing poster everywhere in town. He stopped at multiple hotels to try to find a room and every one had her poster up (NBC News).

SUNDAY
16 Oct 2016- Police tape off Zuzu’s home to process for evidence and impound her car (a 2004 Mazda Miata—confirmed to be Zuzu’s car by a friend of hers to Fox4). Pictures of her car at her apt published by CBS7.
16 Oct 2016- Alpine police ask for anyone who saw a 2006 gray Jeep Liberty or a 2004 Mazda Miata convertible with a beige top being driven between midnight and 10 a.m. on Wed., Oct. 12.
16 Oct 2016- Volunteers met at the Alpine fire station at 208 E. Holland (CBS7). Zuzu's family and police led dozens through streets, alleys and other areas in search. Friends also searched the Trans-Pecos area.
16 Oct 2016- Helicopters, search dogs and 100 to 150 people from the Alpine community helped search. The an El Paso Customs and Border Protection covered the outlying areas of Alpine, while volunteers search areas where Zuzu would walk her dog or hike trails, as she is known to be an avid hiker (CBS7).
16 Oct 2016- The manager of Stripes confirms they turned over CCTV to Alpine PD (CBS7).

MONDAY
17 Oct 2016- No search was planned unless police received further info (CBS7).
17 Oct 2016- Zuzu’s mother and brother fly to Alpine to search on a private flight coordinated and donated by members of their local congregation (NBC News).
17 Oct 2016- The Brewster County Sheriff's Office asked area ranchers and land owners to check their property for any suspicious signs of disturbed earth, personal items on the ground, anything that might raise your suspicions that it may need to be investigated further (BCSO FB, CBS7).

TUESDAY
18 Oct 2016, 10:30 AM - $7,500 reward offered for info leading to her whereabouts or safe return.
18 Oct 2016-Alpine PD continue searching in the Alpine area, with aircraft from US Customs and Border Protection assisting in the search (CBS7).
18 Oct 2016- Members of the Texas Equusearch are also expected to arrive in Alpine to assist in the search soon (CBS7).
18 Oct 2016, 4:30 PM- Reward increased to $17,500 offered by Alpine police for info leading to her location or safe return.
18 Oct 2016- LE officers in aircraft and volunteers on foot searched in the area near Alpine (KTXS).
18 Oct 2016- In an interview, her former HS boyfriend (TA) from Keller, TX says he spoke to Zuzu two weeks ago and told him she wanted to transfer schools. She also talked to TA about her current boyfriend (RF) and said she was feeling unsafe (Fox4).

WEDNESDAY
19 Oct 2016, 9:50 AM- Alpine PD announced the search area has been expanded to include the areas of Fort Davis, Marathon, Marfa, Presidio County, and South Brewster County.
19 Oct 2016- Several law enforcement agencies assisting with the expanded search, including DPS, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Texas Forest Service, the Department of Corrections, the National Parks Service, and the DEA.
19 Oct 2016. 9:30 AM- The reward increased to $30,000.
19 Oct 2016, midday- LE took evidence out of the apt belonging to Zuzu's boyfriend. The boyfriend is listed as a Person of Interest. He has not been officially identified. The boyfriend was taken in for questioning at some point but later released after he got an attorney. The boyfriend has not helped with the search. (CBS 7)
19 Oct 2016- Search teams covered over 200 sq miles since the search began. 120 personnel assisted in the search, not including specialized search and rescue teams.

THURSDAY
20 Oct 2016 -Additional agencies joined in the search covering the newly expanded search area. APD is following up on leads that have developed during the investigation and are continuing to receive tips on the case. APD continue to interview witnesses. (CBS7, APD FB)

FRIDAY
21 Oct 2016, 11:30 AM- Press conference w/LE and Zuzu’s family; LE said they have a POI, Zuzu’s boyfriend RF who was not cooperating, LE did not name the POI; Zuzu’s father and brother called the POI by his first name, Robert, and begged him to tell what he knows and help APD find Zuzu.
21 Oct 2016, LE have interviewed over 100 potential witnesses and executed “a dozen” search warrants, in which time they have amassed forensic evidence including computers, cell phones, and vehicles.
21 Oct 2016, 2:30 PM- The reward has increased to $100,000 for info.
21 Oct 2016, 4:00 PM, Sul Ross State University President Kibler held a campus wide meeting for faculty, staff & students to address safety & security in the Morgan University Center Espino Conference Rooms.
21 Oct 2016, 5:00 PM- A prayer vigil was held at the building across from Porter's that used to house the Alpine Christian School.
21 Oct 2016- Students, faculty and staff from the university joined in the voluntary search coordinated through police-- LE has searched over 400 square acres in the air, on foot and on horseback for Zuzu. (Fox4)
21 Oct 2016- The Texas Rangers, Homeland Security and FBI are also involved in the investigation. 21 Oct 2016- Flight crews from El Paso Air and Marine Operations (AMO), Alpine Air Unit, are conducting additional aerial searches this week.
21 Oct 2016- Zuzu’s family and the press identify Zuzu’s boyfriend and the POI who will not cooperate with LE as Robert Fabian.

SATURDAY
22 Oct 2016- APD impounds a Dark Grey 2005 Ford F-150 with magnetic decals for U-Construction on it. LE is seeking information about this vehicle’s movement during the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 12. The magnetic decals may have been removed during the time in question. A search warrant has been obtained and a forensic team is now processing the vehicle for evidence (APD FB, CBS7, WFAA). Online records indicate the Ford F-150 belongs to a family member of RF (Fox4).

22 or 23 Oct 2016—Zuzu’s parents and brother met with RF’s attorney, Liz Rogers, over the weekend, but learned “nothing,” according to Zuzu’s dad. “It was not productive,” he said (WFAA).

23 Oct 2016- LE request residents with private CCTV from the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 12, 2016, contact the PD. Alpine PD reviewing hundreds of hours of surveillance video from businesses and private citizens with CCTV. The videos have provided key evidence with the investigation (Newswest9).
23 Oct 2016- LE released photos of a 2016 White Ford Mustang belonging to a POI (CE) and ask for anyone who saw it being driven between the hours of midnight Wed. October 12 through Thursday morning October 13[SUP]th[/SUP] to call police. The vehicle is in custody at Alpine PD. The license plate number is HTV-1076 (APD FB, CBS7). LE calls the vehicle “a key piece of evidence” in the case (NBC News).
23 Oct 2016- authorities took evidence from the carpet of the impounded White Mustang and it was sent off to a forensic lab in El Paso. The owner of the White Mustang was questioned, then released (CBS7).

25 Oct 2016- The owner of the white Mustang, CE, was interviewed again for 4.5 hours. CE also took a polygraph given by Texas Rangers, results inconclusive. His car (the white Mustang) was returned to him after testing (CBS7).
25 Oct 2016- The Brewster County Sheriff's office asked hunters to be aware of their surroundings this hunting season and look for anything 'that might indicate the earth may have been disturbed'. (CBS7)

WEDNESDAY
26 Oct 2016- Search continues in Brewster and Presidio County, with efforts concentrated in the area of Redford, near the U.S.-Mexico border (CBS7, Star Telegram). Search crews covered an area roughly the size of Connecticut: over 500 square miles, with a combination of individual personnel having accumulated 1,714 miles so far (CBS7, Star Telegram).
26 Oct 2016- Zuzu’s boyfriend, Robert Fabian, was officially named as a suspect in the case; RF’s mother and sister are named as Persons of Interest (Your Basin Local2/Fox4). CE was named by LE as “a key witness” and also a person of interest (FOX4, CBS7).
26 Oct 2016- According to police, RF has been uncooperative with the investigation and has since retained a lawyer. RF’s Lawyer released a statement saying RF is “distraught over the disappearance of Zuzu”, he is cooperating and that they are conducting their own investigation (Your Basin Local2/Fox 24, CBS7).
26 Oct 2016- A neighbor of Fabian's at his apartment complex said he had been asked not to discuss what he knew in detail. He did say he heard the couple arguing the night Zuzu disappeared (WFAA).
26 Oct 2016- The Texas Attorney General's Office has now officially become involved with the case. Alpine Police Chief Russell Scown says that now that the Attorney General is involved they will be able to put together a grand jury and compel witnesses, including Robert Fabian, Zuzu's boyfriend and now suspect in the case, to answer investigators' questions (CBS7, Newswest9).
26 Oct 2016- 83rd District Attorney Rod Ponton made a motion to recuse his office and appoint Adrienne McFarland and Geoff Barr of the Texas Attorney General's Office to provide continuity of the investigation. Ponton is set to leave office in 2017. The motion to recuse Ponton was granted (CBS7, Newswest9).
26 Oct 2016, 7 PM- A prayer vigil organized. The Rotaract Club, Open Care Club, & Student Support Services at Sul Ross State University will be holding prayer outside the University Center.

The boyfriend of missing 21-year-old Zuzu Verk has officially been deemed a suspect in her disappearance by local authorities, and new documents obtained by News 8 may provide an explanation why.

In search warrants obtained exclusively by WFAA, authorities state that the boyfriend, Robert Fabian, called his friend Chris Estrada twice during the early morning hours of Verk’s disappearance on October 12. The warrant also indicates they communicated using the social media app Snapchat.

A separate warrant pertaining to a pick-up truck indicates that Fabian borrowed the F-150 during those same early morning hours on that Wednesday.

None of the revelations come as a surprise to John Franco, who lives directly below Fabian in an apartment complex across from Sul Ross State University.

"That night, we heard arguing," said Franco. "I can hear him pacing back and forth, in the kitchen, living room, all around, all around.”

LE does not think RF's family is being fully cooperative

I can't find a MSM source for this, but RF is said to have taken his mother and sister to Presidio where the mother and sister crossed into the city of Ojinaga, Chihuahua, locally known as OJ. This also occurred sometime on Wednesday, October 12. It's not unusual for people to go to OJ, but it is unusual timing. RF then returned to either Alpine or Marathon. Presidio is in Presidio County, to the west of Brewster County, where Alpine and Marathon are.

It would help to know whether RF (and the vehicle) crossed into Mexico, and whether it avoided the checkpoints on the way south and then back north. My guess is that RF did not cross, based upon the fact that the search is now focused on the remote areas near Presidio.

The boyfriend of missing 21-year-old Zuzu Verk has officially been deemed a suspect in her disappearance by local authorities, and new documents obtained by News 8 may provide an explanation why.

In search warrants obtained exclusively by WFAA, authorities state that the boyfriend, Robert Fabian, called his friend Chris Estrada twice during the early morning hours of Verk&#8217;s disappearance on October 12. The warrant also indicates they communicated using the social media app Snapchat.

A separate warrant pertaining to a pick-up truck indicates that Fabian borrowed the F-150 during those same early morning hours on that Wednesday.

None of the revelations come as a surprise to John Franco, who lives directly below Fabian in an apartment complex across from Sul Ross State University.

"That night, we heard arguing," said Franco. "I can hear him pacing back and forth, in the kitchen, living room, all around, all around.&#8221;

Wow. I had hoped Alpine PD had more than the info on the date night. The search warrant info explains so much more. But now any hope I had that ZuZu might still be alive is gone. I knew the odds were stacked against her but it's still a rotten feeling.
