Early in this thread, there was a comment that the boyfriend took his mother and sister (?) back to Mexico but did not cross the border because he does not have a passport.

Am I right in thinking that he would need a passport to get back into the US rather then to cross into Mexico in the first place, and that he therefore represents a flight risk to Mexico despite not having a passport?

Possibly both ways unless he has a trusted traveller card http://traveltips.usatoday.com/passport-requirements-traveling-mexico-21665.html

I know it's hard to sort out the rules. jammyjo, but no we can't post comments from the owner of the Mustang. Here is a link to the rules about social media. The relevant part is uner "Not allowed" but we are wise to refer to the whole thing regularly. For example we can't post information from comments in allowed SM, just posts from the owner of the page. When in doubt it's suggested to pm a mod before posting. Hope this helps. :)

Something just clicked as I was thinking about traveling in Texas as part of my job. Traveling to the Rio Grande Valley, there are Border Patrol checkpoints on two of the major highways. These have multiple cameras, sensors, canines (assuming for contraband search), etc. If traveling south toward Mexico, you don't have to stop. Traveling back north, you have to stop, and you actually speak to an officer/agent, declare you're a citizen, etc. There is one on Hwy 118, out from Alpine, as well as one outside Marfa. There may be a third one in the area, but can't find the location.

If POI traveled one of these routes at some point, and I don't know if he did, he would have been stopped coming back north. I don't know what that all means in terms of the ongoing
search. I guess my point is this... I suppose you could come back from down south without going through a checkpoint, but you would have to go very far off the normal routes to do so. Seems like
I also remember if you were going south, even though you didn't stop, there were a ton of cameras/sensors mounted on the highway. Someone that travels those roads frequently
can chime in and correct me if I'm way off.

What did you do with her Robert !! ??

I'll bet she told him she was planning to break things off with him once and for all and his ego wouldn't allow it.

COD is going to be either strangulation or blunt force trauma.

I hope they plan on putting a GPS under his car or figure out some other way to track him. If they find her body, he's going to bolt. He'll be heading south.

I've seen the cops make mistakes like that before, so I know it happens.

These ol' boys (Alpine PD) are far too smart to let this fellow bolt. I'm sure they have him well in their sight. He ain't a going anywhere.
As far as your characterization of the scenario, *if* the POI is the Perp, I agree it most likely happened in the manner you suggest. "If I can't have you, no one can!"
It was most likely an argument that got out of hand and resulted in deadly force.

The drones should be very helpful in helping narrow down the search grid.

Editing to add that I think the more likely concern would be that he would feel trapped and would attempt to end his own life. PURE SPECULATION. Texas has the death penalty so he would know what is in front of him, *if* he is guilty. Now I live in California. We'd feed him waffles and steak (check out the San Quintin menu), send him to woodworking shop, and let him have pen pals who are demented admirers. We'd probably parole him in 10 or less years.

If that's the motive....we've seen this before quite a few times. Sometimes, I hate people.

No one's life "belongs" to you --to do with as you please !!!
Whether you're married to someone, in a relationship, or even your own children --you do not have the right to hurt someone, or make decisions for a person that are harmful for them.

Disgusting.

About the likelihood of being pulled over by LE. Very unlikely. Unless you are grossly speeding or driving erratically. We have only a handful of officers patrolling an extremely large swath of road. At night, it is common for our on-call deputy to not be in Fort Davis.

Agreed. At night I've seen BP on the Scenic Loop parked at the intersection with 505, but it's unlikely. I have thought about the scenario of pushing someone over a cliff, but as a passerby I would notice the buzzards that would come.... As to "hidey holes" that someone else mentioned, there are some volunteers checking abodes in south Brewster County.

Got some extremely interesting information for you guys.

We had a registered sex offender arrested last night who was in the carport of a woman's home. This woman lives on Eagle Pass and 6th street. Close to ZuZu Verk's apt.

This sex offender is a 20YO male who, 5 years ago, raped a 15yo. He served 3 years in Juvenile Detention. Now, doing the math, that means that this guy attacked someone who was his age, at the time.
This guy is now 20. ZuZu is 22. This perps height weight is 6'4", 180lbs. This is a guy who could easily overpower someone of ZuZu's size.

To me this throws up major red flags, with a criminal history like that and his risk level for reoffending having been marked 'High."

IMO if she is alive it is more likely "someone" (ahem, RF) sold her into human trafficking than that the POI put her in a remote cabin somewhere. I suppose it is possible he thought more time would pass before anyone missed her and with the camping trip planned for friday he may have seen it as a perfect plan to kidnap her and take her to a cabin for the weekend--her parents would just think she went camping early and not miss her right away. But he had to know she had a midterm on Wed and had to work Wed too. He had to know she would be missed right away and that is why this doesn't feel premeditated to me. I just can't shake the feeling he killed her in anger and hid her body somewhere. Maybe the police have not yet found the right vehicle. Maybe he stole a vehicle, hid her body using the stolen vehicle, pushed the car over a cliff or into a lake somewhere and then called someone who drives one of the other vehicles (truck or mustang) to come get him. IDK.
Ariel Castro held 3 women captive for 10 years in a house in the middle of a subdivision. He went on about his life in such a way that he seemed boring and normal. I think 'anything' is possible when it come to people with obsessions and broken minds.

Glad you mentioned about the buzzards. Each year, right about fall, all the buzzards head south for the winter. You can typically tell when this happens because suddenly the deer, javelina, foxes, rabbits, etc that are hit on the roads are no longer being eaten or surrounded. We have reached that point this year, and the buzzards have gone to the wind. So... in all reality, right now, you very well may not see any buzzards. Even more disturbing and disheartening.

Was there through Oct 1 and they were eating away... damn. Tire tracks, broken brush... anything along the very mountainous parts of 118. Heck, the picnic areas. Zuzu mentioned loving DMSP and living there temporarily (on her FB page, open to the public) so she would have been familiar as well (not to mention from her work). Wondering about bringing in trained raptors.

WoW on both parts. The RSO and the Marathon connection. Thank you.
