"It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher," the [Instagram] post began. "Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment."

Benard said that Christopher—who played Nikolas Cassadine on the show from 1996 to 2016, alongside his Sonny Corinthos—was a "sweet soul and wonderful friend" to everyone he met.

"Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting," Benard shared in his tribute. "Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol. We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father."

Christopher portrayed Nikolas Cassadine on the medical soap opera from 1996 to 2016, as well as Connor Bishop from 2004 to 2005. In 2016, he won the Daytime Emmy for his performance as Nikolas, and previously earned four nominations, one of which was a special fan award for irresistible combination that he shared with Natalia Livingston. Christopher also worked on “Days of Our Lives” between 2001 and 2019, scoring a Daytime Emmy nomination for outstanding lead actor in a drama series for his performance as Stefan DiMera.

My favorite Nikolas. I was so hoping he'd eventually return. My heart is heavy.

Sleep peacefully Tyler.

Tyler and Billy Miller. We lost them both too soon.

Didn't know they released Billy Miller's cod too. Since he doesn't have his own thread, this seems the best place to post it.

"According to the autopsy report obtained by PEOPLE from the Travis County Medical Examiner, the Daytime Emmy Award winner was found dead in his bathtub “with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.”

Authorities found “a revolver chambered for .410 shotgun shells” in the actor’s right hand as well as “multiple letters indicating suicidal intent” on the scene, the report states.

The autopsy also indicates that The Young and the Restless and General Hospital actor had alcohol and cocaine in his system at the time of his death. It lists his blood alcohol level as 0.08."
