It all seems a complete f up . No tracking of people going to either Syria or Libya or anywhere else for that matter. What's the point of having these fancy biometric passports if nothing is done with them? They can ban football hooligans travelling but not anyone else it seems. Utterly ridiculous imo. And this is the result - 22 dead and 120 injured. Disgraceful.

I know, i wonder what is the point of "watch list", or saying they were "known to authorities" , "known to have link", why bother to do this if nothing more is done. Speaking to all countries that do this.

"Courtney Boyle and Philip Tron: 'Beautiful daughter' and 'amazing' step-father have been confirmed as the final two victims

The family of a 'beautiful daughter' and her 'amazing' step-father have paid tribute as they are revealed to be the final two people killed in the Manchester terror blast.

Courtney Boyle, 19, and Philip Tron, 32, both from Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, had been missing since the attack at the Manchester Arena on Monday night.
Courtney, a criminology student at Leeds Beckett University, was described as being a 'beautiful daughter' by her mother in a moving tribute.

She said: 'My stunning amazing beautiful daughter you were my rock you made me so proud with all you had achieved.'

I was at Monks Cross yesterday, and even the shops had more security guards than usual. Didn't see any police though, glad because armed police make me so anxious that I'd probably be arrested for looking suspicious and nervous around them! :P

Yeah, me too! ha

The city center is a tourist haven, especially at this time of year and into summer, there's literally thousands of people on the streets, from all over the world. It scares me stupid tbh

Thank you, Zen. We're a resilient bunch, dealt with the Blitz with air bombs raining down everywhere and then with the IRA incessantly bombing us for 30 years so it's not the first time (as a nation) we've been terrorised like this. I think the biggest shock is that he targeted kids - almost half on that list are teenagers plus an 8 year old. As a FB friend wisely said "they had not yet had the chance to raise a voice or make a choice".

9/11 was utterly horrific and please believe me when I say we lived it with you and felt your pain, but before that we, the Western world, weren't really scared. And now, because of 9/11 and 7/7 and attacks like this and Boston and Paris and all the others, we may think twice about where we go and what we do. It won't stop the majority from doing what they want, but it's sad that the thought is at the back of our minds.

The UK is now on a critical alert for the first time in 10 years, which means another attack is likely. I am glad that the kids break up from school tomorrow, my husband has time off work, and we are going camping in a field far from anywhere. Gonna go get me some sunshine and safe time.

Thank you for caring.

:uk: :usa:

Off topic.

Have a nice time CoverMeCagney. I'm heading to the seaside tomorrow. Hopefully we will all get good weather in the U.K.

ABEDI TOOK FLIGHT FROM DUSSELDORF TO UK 4 DAYS BEFORE ATTACK

WDR.de
http://www1.wdr.de/nachrichten/manchester-attentaeter-100.html

According to reports by ZDF and "Focus Online", the Manchester killer Salman Abedi flew from Düsseldorf to the British city four days before the attack. The ZDF channel as well as the news magazine Focus cite Berlin security circles, who have confirmed the flight. The German security authorities would have received this information from British investigators.

According to ZDF information, Abedi was not registered in the so-called Schengen Information System (SIS), meaning that he was not registered as being searched or for reporting of his travel activities. In addition, the man had already traveled from 2015 to the UK from Frankfurt / Main. Apparently, he had previously been in paramilitary training in Syria, Scotland Yard had informed the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA).

As reported by the magazine, antiterror experts from police and constitutional protection experts are currently in the process of determining whether Salman Abedi might have had contacts with radical German Islamists in North Rhine-Westphalia. "The scene is closely intertwined internationally," a BKA expert said. "We need to clarify whether Abedi got to know people in Syria that he has now met in NRW or Hessen."

WHY DID MANCHESTER BOMBER VISIT DUSSELDORF JUST DAYS BEFORE ATTACK?

Daily Mail
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4539462/Jihadi-family-police-warnings-Manchester-bomber.html

The Manchester suicide bomber was in a German hotbed of Islamic extremists four days before the attack as it emerged his family are probed for their supposed links to al-Qaeda and ISIS.

Salman Abedi, who killed 22 people and injured at least 119 Monday night, visited Dusseldorf days before he blew himself up at Manchester Arena - an atrocity possibly connected to the Paris and Brussels terror attacks, detectives have said.

One theory is Abedi may have been part of a larger cell that included Mohamed Abrini, the 'Man in the Hat', with connections to the mass murders in France and Belgium. Abrini is known to have visited Manchester in 2015.

German security sources said efforts have been stepped up as they scramble to find out if Abedi had accomplices in the country, received any explosives training or had been radicalised by local preachers.

Dusseldorf is in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia where Berlin Christmas market killer Anis Amri, 24, worshipped at Jihadist mosques shortly before he ploughed a stolen lorry into a crowd, killing 11 and wounding dozens more.

Like Abedi, Amri had links with Libya having been born there and was thought to have had contact with people in training camps in the country before his killing spree, raising suspicions of a potential link between the two terrorists.

One big happy family, with links to terrorist carnage in Belgium, France and Germany....

Known to sucurity services, but no action.

Schengen Information System not working.

Out politicians keep the borders open and prefer terror over safety each and every day.

Yes, I've always thought it was an "obvious" place to attack, down by the river in good weather you can barely move for people :S I'm not sure I can feel super safe wherever I am now though

It's crackin' the flags out there today and due to stay warm and dry for a few days, I love it! Setting off in 24 hours and I'm counting them down. You have a great time too, stay safe.

Salman Abedi’s support for terrorism was reported this year to the security services, and friends had called Britain’s anti-terrorist hotline five years ago with concerns about his views, it was claimed. He was reported for violent statements, including a claim that being a suicide bomber was “OK”.

Intelligence sources have emphasised how difficult it is to assess suspects on the periphery of investigations. Against a backdrop of limited resources, security agencies and police have been deluged with the number of terror suspects and acquaintances they must triage.

Not sure who leaked what to who. Seems that mi5 knew about him through locals/family/intelligence, not sure who/how the media reported what was suppose to be kept close to the vest.

That's a big problem. <modsnip> Huge problem that needs to be addressed.

A friend was just telling me she went to a local shopping centre (mall) and there were armed police on the door of Sainsburys. This is pretty shocking for us isn't it, seeing guns outside the supermarket. No likey.

<modsnip> That's why terrorism is so aweful, it's a crime that creates an ongoing and permanent fear. I feel for you all.

That's a big problem. Your country let's all the radicals and their families in, then doesn't have the resources to control them. Huge problem that needs to be addressed.

I imagine the native Americans felt the same when the rest of the world turned up. And anyway, this radical was born here, has a British education and a British passport so it's not as easy as letting "them" in or keeping "them" under control.

I would bet my house that a large proportion of the doctors and surgeons who treated the victims are Muslim.

[h=1]Manchester attack: Mobile phone 'saved woman's life'[/h]
Lisa Bridgett, of Pwllheli, had been using the phone after the Ariana Grande concert on Monday when the explosion caused a steel nut to hit her.

She lost a middle finger before the nut went through her phone and her cheek, ending up lodged in her nose.
Her husband said the phone probably diverted and slowed down the nut.
Mrs Bridgett, who was at the concert with her daughter and her daughter's friend, was in a "positive mood" and felt "very lucky to be alive", her husband Steve said.

She had surgery on Tuesday and was due to have another operation on Thursday after suffering multiple injuries, including a fractured ankle and a large wound on her thigh.

[h=1]Female police officer killed in Manchester bombing named as Elaine McIver[/h]

attachment.php

In a tribute today, her family described her as ‘the best we could ever have wished for.’

They said she ‘would have been devastated’ to learn of her partner’s injuries after both were caught in the bomb blast at Manchester Arena on Monday.

She was off duty from Cheshire Police at the time, and had been at the concert with her children, who were also hurt.

Paul, her husband, is still in a serious condition in hospital.

I don't want to speculate, but Greater Manchester Police released a statement about fraudulent fundraising. How can people be so sick to take advantage of a tragedy like this.
Do you have a link for that please Karen?
