Sentencing hearing underway

The sentencing hearing of Aaron Campbell is now underway.

The High Court in Glasgow is packed with family members of Alesha MacPhail and members of the press.

Lord Matthews, who will be sentencing 16-year-old Campbell, has taken to the bench.

Campbell's confession

Aaron Campbell has admitted responsibility for the rape and murder of Alesha MacPhail after months of denial.

The shock confession was made as the sentencing hearing got underway.

Alesha was found with 117 injuries to her tiny body when she was found face down in woodlands on July 2 last year.

Campbell has for the last eight months denied killing the youngster.

He spun a web of lies as he tried to frame the partner of Alesha’s father.

However, a jury saw through his cocktail of deception and found him guilty.
