This was live reporting from May 6th

11:45
Case called on
Apologies for the delay as court processed several other cases.

The suspect accused of the murder of Alex Davies is now due to appear before magistrates.

As mentioned previously, Asad Khan is defending and Tony Stanway is prosecuting.

11:49
Suspect appears in dock
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has now been brought to the dock. He is wearing a grey jumper and trousers as he stands before the magistrates.

11:52
Teen confirms personal details
The 17-year-old speaks to confirm his name, age and other personal details before having the process of today’s hearing explained to him.

11:53KEY EVENT
Charges read to defendant
The charges the teenager faces are explained to him. As well as the murder of Alex Davies, he is also charged with possession of a knife on Parbold Hill.

11:55
Application for case to be dealt with at Crown Court
Mr Stanway, prosecuting, applies for the case to be sent to the crown court to be dealt with. Mr Khan, defending, makes no representations.

The chair of the bench, whose name I’ve not yet been given, asks the defendant to stand as he addresses him.

He tells the teen: “This case is now going to be sent to the crown court. The crown court will be sitting at Preston and this case will be heard on 8 May at Preston Crown Court.”

11:58
Teen led from the dock
The teen is then remanded in custody and led from the dock, concluding a hearing that lasted minutes here in Preston.

12:04
Second charge referred to ‘black-handled kitchen knife’
Just to clarify, as well as murder, the teen is also charged with possession of a bladed article.

That relates to a black handled kitchen knife. Both allegations will be dealt with as the court proceeds through crown.

12:20
Updates concluded
That concludes the hearing here in Preston Crown Court. I’m just in the process of writing an overview of the case as it stands, which will be online shortly. Thank you for following my updates this morning.

The chair of the bench, by the way, was a Mr Peter Dalton

Do we have any other info? Was this 17 year old known to Alex or is this a random, opportunist murder?

I haven't seen any mention of the relationship. I wonder if he was turned in by a relative or if they found details of an arranged meeting on Alex's phone or social media, or if they found him on cctv/dashcam?

Oh my God how awful! What was the motive? Since this was said to have been a prolonged attack (not just one stab) and it wasn't even recognizable if the body was male or female it sounds like a frenzied attack full of hate and anger. So I would think that the accused teenager knew Alex and had some deep seated hate towards him. Just my speculation.

I also wonder if he acted alone.

Very sad for the family. They must be in shock. :(

Or high on drugs? I’m reminded of Breck Bednar who thought he was going to meet a fellow gamer online, only to be murdered by him. Could it be a mutual interest and Alex thought he was genuine?

My first thought was a gay hook up in the woods until it got out of hand - very sad indeed.

Has there been anymore information on this? Few cases I am following at the moment there has been nothing of recent

  • #30
No I’ve seen nothing.

The funeral has taken place, a young man is in custody, they’ve said cause of death was aphixiation and multiple stab wounds. I’d think it’s a pretty clear cut case...

A teenager has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Alex Davies whose body was found in woodland on Parbold Hill.

The 17-year-old from Chorley, who can not be identified, spoke only to confirm his name and his pleas to charges of murder and possession of a black handled kitchen knife when he appeared at Preston Crown Court on Monday (September 2).

[...]

The defendant was due to stand trial on September 9 but The Honorary Recorder of Preston Judge Mark Brown ordered the date to be put back to March 9 2020, to allow expert medical reports to be carried out.

He said: “It is extremely disappointing on any view that the trial can not take place next week.”

The teenager was remanded in custody and will return to court on January 24 for a pre-trial review.

A teenager accused of killing an 18-year-old youth found dead in woodland can be named for the first time as Brian Healless. [..]

Judge Mark Brown, Recorder of Preston, revoked an order banning the press from naming the defendant during a brief hearing, at which Healless was not present, at Preston Crown Court.

The defendant has pleaded not guilty to murder and possession of a bladed article and will go on trial on March 11.

I didn't realise this trial was going on. Deliberations less than an hour.
_______________

A teenager has been convicted of the murder of a sales assistant who he stabbed more than 100 times and left in a remote woodland location.

Brian Healless attacked Alex Davies, 18, on Parbold Hill, Lancashire, after they agreed through the dating app Grindr to meet at a "discreet spot".

Healless, also 18, dragged him through the mud while he was still alive and covered his body with branches.

Healless, of Chorley, will be sentenced at Preston Crown Court on Tuesday.

Absolutely horrible.

It's so senseless I have to wonder why the jury didn't accept the diminished responsibility plea.

Brian Healless was sentenced to a minimum of 24 years in prison for the killing of Alex Davies. He had “tried to set up similar outdoor meetings with four other men on Grindr in the days after the killing” of Alex. Pure evil.

Teenager jailed for 24 years over murder of Lancashire sales assistant

“You lulled him to his death and executed the killing in a savage way. You were undoubtedly setting him up to kill and you are a manipulative, calculating and devious person.

“It is extremely fortuitous that you were arrested before anyone else suffered the same fate.”

My heart breaks every time I see that photo of Alex, with his gorgeous smile. His eyes are so friendly.
