A group of holidaymakers allege the man was hit in the head with a large concrete slab before a local tried to save his life.

Aparently a 12 year old girl is still being questioned as well.

I depair what is happening to children to make them so violent.

Whilst he clearly wasn't a nice man, none of his convictions excuse what happened.
They were apparently from London, and he from Kent, so it's likely they didn't know him.

There are lots of caravan and chalet parks in that area. They might have all been staying/own on the same site and "knew" him that way, even if it was just for a week. I doubt it was a completely random attack/mugging that went wrong. JMO.

Inquest opened and then suspended.

"Prosecutor Craig Evans added that although post-mortem examinations continue, Mr Cashford may have died as the result of “a medical episode such as a cardiac arrest which could have been brought on by being chased and attacked”."

A man was lured to a beach by three teenagers who stoned him to death calling him a ‘f***ing paedo’, a court has heard.

Alexander Cashford, 49, met his three alleged killers – a 16-year-old girl and two boys aged 15 and 16 – ‘quite by chance’ in Leysdown-on-Sea, on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, on August 8 last year.

He gave the girl his number and the teenagers then sent him messages using the fake name ‘Sienna’, eventually arranging to meet him by the sea wall on August 10, jurors were told today.

Article from 16 February 2026:
A 16-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy were cleared of murdering Alexander Cashford, 49, but convicted of the secondary charge of manslaughter at Woolwich crown court.
<snip>
A 16-year-old boy who was also involved in the attack previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter. The three defendants cannot be legally named because of their ages.
Sentencing is expected in April.

Regardless of how morally wrong (or how disgusting) it is for a grown man, or woman, to try to pick up a teenager who is over 16, legally the person is not breaking a law in the UK, as the age of consent is 16. In this case the teenagers told him the girl was 16, and it was they who arranged the meeting.

The term "paedofilia" is used in everyday speech for covering all ages, but it's correct meaning is attraction to pre-pubescent children. The term "hebefilia" is used for pubescent children (11-14), and "ephebofilia" means the preference of mid-to-late adolescents, which seems to have been the case here.
