15 years is an insult.. This crime was absolutely horrific. 5 hours of torture to a vulnerable woman and these feral children will be out and about before you know it. If they were adults they would of been sentenced to a lot longer. They can't be 'fixed', they will always have that underlying psychotic edge (I understand psychopathy can't be diagnosed in under 18s, but the signs are definitely there!)

I think it's terrible that these girls could be out and meeting blissfully unaware people in a few years. We only really have Venables and Thompson to compare with (that I can think of, anyway) and look at the trouble they've been in since.

I've found this article saying the High Court has ruled that Section 39 order preserving the anonymity of children involved in criminal proceedings do not apply once they have turned 18. Will it apply in this case?

I really can't put my finger on it. But here we are just 4 months into 2016. And already we have lost so many well known celebrities. That we've grown up with.
And more importantly the upsurge in children killers. And killers of children.
It is truly an Annis horribilus.

And then we have 2 young teens trying to kidnap a toddler taking a 2.5 mile walk before police actually cordoned them off in a local park.
What was on their minds?
Why?

I beggar belief that these last week's have been the most haunting I ve felt in a long while. I do hope we see a ray of light lift us thru all this dark depravity.

I agree. Intentionally murder someone and you should not expect to retain all your human rights. I thought in this case it might be down to Social Services involvement with the girls, but now Liz Edwards has been murdered and those teenagers haven't been named either (despite it all being glaringly obvious).

Darn autocorrect.
Apparently. So I've just been reading.
Since James Bulgers murder. And the bringing to trial of the accused.
Venables and Thompson were tried in an adult court. With the general court procedure dulled down and questioning and cross examination. Put basically.. 'simplified'
Because the case was of such a National outcry for justice in light of the killers. And even worldwide interest to the proceedings.
Venables and Thompson were named from the beginning. But from such times as when they were released they would have anonymity. And new identities. And all the while serving their time in a 'secure mental unit' not 'prison'.

They were released. Thompson had seemed to have fared better than Venables. Who has had several trips back into custody with child pornography charges etc etc.

Whereas Angie's killers have been deemed anonymity at least until they reach 18 years of age.
Noted in the Judges summing up. The anonymity clause could however last until such times they are released.

If you look hard enough you can locate their names.
But it is upheld in the UK. That under no means will their identities be released.
Such was the disgust at the girls' crime. It is deemed paramount to protect family members'
As well as Angie's family.
Although unlike Venables n Thompson. The girls have been sent to prison. Albeit a 'safe wing' under suicide watch.
The girls were only 3 years older than the boys.
So we have 2 differing ways of trying to facilitate young offenders.

23 years apart.

I'm sure this is not the last we'll hear on this case.

In November last year the girl, who was 14 at the time, armed herself with a large kitchen knife and went to his home in Bradford, West Yorkshire.


She told him: 'I am going to kill you,' and plunged the blade into him in front of his two young children.

I saw this yesterday, a 14 year old girl pleading guilty to stabbing a 56 year old man.

But the circumstances are pretty much the opposite of the other recent cases.

I'm totally in agreement with her anonymity this time.

If it didn't identify the girl I'd be happy for the 'victim' to be named.

I really hope she gets the help she needs.

Totally agree with you. There are times and cases that need dealt with sympathetically. And at the discretion of those involved.
It could indeed be that matters arose to the girl saying this and indeed carrying it out.
Whereas Angie's murder. Was a barrage of beatings. With varying implements. And showed total disregard for human life. As Angie had invited them into her home. As company as she did with many a youngster. I'm guessing she thought better in her house than roaming the streets. And I'm guessing they were already known to her as many other young kids were.

We've all hit the cider as kids growing up. Or the supply mum n dad has stuffed at the back of the cupboard..but I don't ever remember it making me or any of my peers want to go murder the next person they see for example. And to share selfies with the poor woman. Is THIS the age we live in. Obsessed with looks. Weight. They've always been issues..
I just really shake my head these days at the levels our morals have changed.
Have we changed SO much?

Two girls who murdered a vulnerable woman led "chaotic lives" and were known to social services for drinking, running away and taking drugs, a report has concluded.

Reading the articles about the two girls, their backgrounds and family life sounds truly horrific. Not that it excuses what they did by any means but it's just so sad to think they had received so much abuse, and then went on to do such a vile crime.

I was just mentioning that according to the facts publicly released, the older girl will turn 18 sometime between April and December next year (she was 14 at the time of the murder in December 2014, and 15 at the time of sentencing in April 2016). At that point the anonymity order will cease to apply, so unless another is made, we can expect the case to hit the headlines again.
