UK - Anita Rose, 57, walking her dog, police investigating suspected murder, Brantham, Suffolk, 24th July 2024'

  • #281
So, this is yet another individual arrested, as the oldest man arrested prior on suspicion of her murder was 45 years old. I wonder if all four of these people have some association or connection in some way.

MOO

I hope LE will let us know more, soon.

The 45 year old man and 37 year old woman were "released on bail to return on October 25" and the 20 year old "released on bail until October 24 with conditions including not to enter Brantham or Manningtree" - so maybe something will happen this week.

"On July 28, a 45-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman from Ipswich were arrested in connection with the investigation.

The man was arrested on suspicion of murder, while the woman was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

They have had their bail extended until December 12.

A third suspect –
a man in his 20s –
was arrested on July 30 on suspicion of murder.

His bail has been extended to January 3, 2025.

SuffolkNews reported yesterday
a fourth suspect – a 55-year-old man –
was arrested in Ipswich on suspicion of murder,
nearly three months after Anita’s death."

The Suffolk News link you posted included a link to the “investigation portal for the murder”. It’s where one can submit tips to the police, but it also gives a good summary of the details of Anita’s case.

From Dotta's post above

the name given is Roy Barclay

This is an article from January 2024

Roy Barclay

Fifty-four-year-old Roy Barclay from Ipswich is wanted on recall to prison for breaching the terms of his licence.

He is described as white, 5ft 6ins tall, with brown and greying, thinning hair and possible grey facial hair.

He has links across Suffolk and Essex.

Anyone who has seen Barclay or knows of his current whereabouts should contact Suffolk police, quoting crime reference number 37/30950/22.

Omg, this man, Roy Barclay had been in jail for a very similar attack on another person!

Trying again to see if this works any better @slowpoke

October 2015

A HOMELESS man has been jailed for ten years for attacking an elderly man and leaving him for dead.

Roy Barclay, 46, attacked an 82-yearold passer-by over a harmless remark the pensioner made about him rummaging for pizza in bins outside a parade of shops.

Leslie Gunfield, spotting Barclay looking for pizza boxes in the bins and quipped: “You’ve got a good haul there.” It was enough to spark a vicious attack which left Mr Gunfield with injuries which left him in need of extensive facial reconstruction.

Barclay’s lawyer, Graham Brown, told the judge Barclay had no previous convictions and had lived a homeless life for the past 13 years.

He added: “He fully accepts his responsibility for this awful violence.

“He really regrets what he has done. He accepts it will be a severe punishment. He has no justification for what he did that day.”

It may be entirely coincidental, but there is a similarity between the suspect and our unidentified potential witness from the cctv images. JMO

It’s looking that way isn’t it.
Poor Anita. How utterly horrendous.

  • #293
Oh damn. Very glad they've got him but he shouldn't have been free to do this in the first place.

Yep, he does. And it seems you may have been right when you said he reminded you of a bag lady!

Good spot I think you’re right.

My thoughts go out to Anita’s family - I hope it brings them some relief that somebody has now been charged.

I suspect severe psychological issues.
He was homeless,
so not able to hold a job.
He raided bins to find food (pizza in above report)
Reacted with unhinged aggression to humorous remark of a stranger.
(also in report above).

I guess it was a phone which caught his attention.
And then sold it for a few bucks.
Also a colourful jacket.

Terrible case :(
Condolences to Anita's family.

This does not look good!

- we have a man with a track record of this type of offence
- known to LE
- in this area
- bears quite a resemblance to the man in blue
- was on cctv in the area of the crime
- at the time of the crime
- never came forward despite appeals

and yet reports said he was not a suspect, when there should have actually been warnings going out to the public.

I agree with you but I understand why LE probably did it
I think LE were probably well aware that the man in the CCTV was the culprit from early on in this case but had no idea where he was.

I think by them not releasing that he was a suspect was them trying to entice him to come forward.

It’s a risky strategy in case a member of public approaches him.

I'd be very concerned if that is actually what happened, and how it was played! Especially as it has taken three months to get to an arrest. I think if they had really suspected it was this guy they would surely have released a statement and photograph?!
