After his 25-minute court appearance, the 46-year-old was flanked by two officers as he was escorted back into Aberystwyth Police Station with a blue blanket over his head.

The latest developments came as April's distraught parents Paul, 43, and Coral, 40, issued three new pictures of their daughter.

Mr Bridger was initially arrested on suspicion of abduction, but detectives announced today that the search had become a murder inquiry.

Police with spades have sealed off an area of shrubland near his rented cottage - one of several areas being examined in the hunt for the little girl.

April, who has cerebral palsy, was reported to have willingly got into a vehicle after playing with friends near her home on the Bryn-y-Gog estate in Machynlleth.

Mr Bridger was seen at nearby Ysgol Gynradd Machynlleth school, where two of his children are pupils. Witnesses saw the former leisure centre worker drive to the parents' evening, which started at 5pm, in his Land Rover.

Sources close to Mr and Mrs Jones said the couple had been given a "glowing report" about their daughter's progress - and had allowed her some extra play time when they returned home as a treat.

I'm not sure how those things work specifically but wouldn't he be charged now then instead of them requesting an extension in holding him for questioning, if they did in fact find some forensic evidence suggesting HE killed AJ?

Once they charge him, if they do , they have no more right to question him, so it makes sense for them to use every one of the 96 hours available for questioning.

Particularly if he has chosen to say nothing ( which is my opinion btw, not a fact ) they need to use all the time to try and get something from him.

I can't now find the link that say that April and her parents both returned home from the parents evening together, but I know I read it somewhere.

I too am struggling to find quotes/links that were there. It seems as if a lot of quotes from folks in the area have been withdrawn from press websites. I know I heard on Sky where someone said he turned up for work as normal and yet he was driving around/walking riverbanks. No wonder it's taking some unravelling by police. That quote has also disappeared.

I guess what I am trying to say is why hang around parked...if my ex hung around outside after we had split up, I'd be asking him why. It seems as if he had a lot of time on his hands and not much to fill it. You would think he would have access rights, specified days/times maybe?

Not sure what you mean about hanging around parked. Where did you read that? He regularly visited his kids on that estate, and if we believe the reports, he went to his kids' parents evening.

Oh! I have a preliminary theory! Supposing while MB was driving erratically for whatever reason, his car actually hit April. Then in cowardly fashion he decided it would be better for him to dispose of the evidence rather than stop and call emergency services. Now we have the other girl's evidence that April got into a van while alive and well. If her description of the color of the vehicle is being seen as unreliable and has been overruled, then it may be the police have come to the conclusion her evidence isn't reliable at all, in which case it's possible she saw nothing anyway, on that occasion.

I doubt that his van hit the little girl, but let's say that it is remotely possible. Then you would have to explain why there was no blood on the ground at the scene of this hit. The van would likely show some signs of hitting her as well... blood, a small dent, a scratch. Those would be the first things LE looked for. And why wouldn't the other little girl say that April had been hit, rather than she climbed into the van on her own? He wouldn't have had time to coach her what to say, would he?
The van would have had to hit her pretty hard to kill her, so if she was only injured, why would he have stopped and picked her up to dispose of her body? Why not take her straight to the hospital? Or knock on the door and tell her mom that there had been an accident? And more importantly, how did he know she was dead, he's not a doctor.
No offense intended but if one formulates a theory, one should have some facts to back it up. What facts do we know that would support this theory of April being hit, other than pure speculation?

I do wonder why police let it out now that he was being arrested on suspicion of murder, rather than wait until they are forced to charge him; perhaps they had spoken to the parents and knew it would get out to the media?

The pics of the vehicle show the front covered up, yet they revealed the registration plate number. Why cover up the front of the vehicle? Damaged maybe?

Thank you!

"Parents' evening
Mark Bridger was at a parents' evening between 5.30pm and 6pm, the local council has confirmed to Sky News. And it was the same parents' evening that April Jones's family were at. But, the council has said, Coral and Paul Jones are believed to have left at 3.30pm, meaning it is unlikely they and April overlapped with Bridger."

So, which media outlet has it right then? Did the parents evening start before 5pm and this one has it wrong?

"Witnesses saw the former leisure centre worker drive to the parents’ evening, which started at 5pm, in his blue Land Rover Discovery – a vehicle for which police have since issued an appeal for information."

And again, if he was at the parents evening at 6pm still, as the link above indicates, then how could he have almost hit that person at 6pm also? Surely he can't be in two places at exactly the same time. So, did he leave the school before 6pm? Is the person who saw him driving erratically at 6pm wrong in their times?

And the other links I posted must be wrong too then, because if April's parents where done at 3:30 they weren't still at the school when April was abducted.

Thats what I was thinking of.

Lisser - the school and place where he is supposed to have driven erratically are literally a minute away from each other.

Been reported in press and news that he was driving up and down the road, agitated state, parked up, etc.

I read something back in the beginning about that's what locals do when driving through water to prevent something happening to the engine. I'd bet that , along with tire tracks on the bank, is why they initially were searching the water.

Parked up possibly because the school is on that estate and he allegedly went to the parents evening.

This story is so horrible. Missing children cases are so gut wrenching. I have sat here and read and read.....and all that has gotten me is very confused. As far as the child being outside at what I consider a very early evening time.....I do not find that at all odd. I have three children, the youngest one now 18.....but it was not at all unusual for them to be outside while I made dinner....or even for them to go back out while I did the after dinner clean up. Trust me I know all to well the dangers facing children.......
I do find it odd that no "official timeline" is listed.....or if it is I missed it? All the speculation and confusion on the timeline adds a great deal to why the details are so confusing. As to the child witness.....it is not unusual for a child to make things safe in their minds. Or even to add what may be case changing details at innocent times. What seems like nothing to a child.....a small detail....can change the entire case once revealed. Often children tossed into such a trauma..... panic and alter details to keep them out of trouble. That does not make the child a bad child....or even a liar in my view.....it makes them just what they are.....a child tossed into the middle of a traumatic circumstance, trying to cope with things they should never have to deal with....let alone understand.
I do not understand why the child's illness was not released sooner. I would think that would have been one of the first things released. I also do not understand all the changing details.
(1) Was this child on her bike or not? (2) If the bike is still in the parents possession it apparently shows no sign of being hit by a vehicle? (3) Any blood evidence in the area the child was abducted from? (4) Is there an accurate timeline....time April went out till time she was noticed as missing?
My prayers go out for April....her family....the little girl witness and her family.....plus the entire neighborhood dealing with the reality of this poor little girl. May God in his grace and wisdom provide the information needed to find this little angel and safely bring her home......if that is not possible.....may he lead searchers to where her earthly body lies....and give the family peace in knowing she is not in pain.....

Only covered with cardboard and a land rover is quite a tall vehicle.

i read somewhere or heard it on the news that the front is covered to reduce water going in the front . i thought it was covered to stop the reg being read but according to that info it wasnt .

The reporting indicated it was not just one occasion.

I am a 'local' and I've not seen that in 47 years. These vehicles are made of off-roading and going through water

In my opinion, the efforts to locate April have been all out and 110%-not sure why or how mentioning her illness from the start would have changed anything?
