It might be worth bearing in mind the geography of Mid Wales.
Not far to the North is the start of Snodonia but running down the backbone of Wales are the Cambrian mountains.
The main A roads are decent but no dual carriageways. Even on these roads because of the terrain a distance point to point of 30 miles may actually involve a 50 mile road journey as a road weaves it way through small valleys separated by spurs of higher ground. There are many bends, often hairpins.
The maximum speed is affected by this especially at night or in wet weather. Only is some places would 60 mph be reached with a more likely speed of 40-50 mph slowing down to 20-30 mph on the many bends. Of course someone in a hurry would travel to the limit but that would be dangerous as you never know what is coming round the next bend such as larger vehicles like articulated lorries.
Even some of the B roads are no more than single lane country tracks and only the sharper bends are marked because there are so many.
The terrain itself is mixed between mountain moorland and dense forest.
I think the Police are being very thorough.
We do on the whole have an excellent Police Force in this country and they will be pursuing every possibility, if only to eliminate it from the inquiry.
