Blood stains found on underside of carpet in #markbridger home. This is blood that had "soaked through" pros says...

Pros alleges #markbridger cleaned up blood on surface of carpet and tiles. #apriljones

@c4marcus:

Pros tell jury when it's said DNA profile of blood is a match probability of 1 in a billion to #AprilJones, defence accept it is indeed hers

Have moved onto looking at photos of Mark Bridger's bathroom. Pros say DNA profile matching #AprilJones found on glass of washing machine.

@stevenmorris20:

Into the bathroom of #markbridger home now. April's blood found on door, on washing machine door, on shower curtain. #apriljones

April's DNA was found on the glass of Mark Bridger's washing machine
#apriljones

Bathroom. Image shown of door. Focus on area above handle on the inside of the door

Blood stain in the grouting of tiles indicates "a clean up" at MB's house.

Samples taken from shower curtain: a mixed DNA profile is discovered from matching April Jones, MB, and a third individual.

I missed this Tweet from @PaulBentley: "Mark Bridger 'approached girls aged 8 & 10 for a sleepover at his hours before abducting April Jones' "

Sounds like he was so desperate he'd have tried anything by that point. :banghead:

Sounds like he was trying to copy Huntley by approaching two girls. How lucky they didn't go with him!

Eta- Blood had soaked through the carpet? Ugh. I originally thought there must have been enough to make them think she was dead.

  • #604
Poor baby girl :( The only good thing about this case, unlike many others here on ws, is that the perp is CAUGHT ! Thank heavens he's not out there waiting for another victim.

Yep I remember wondering why they knew MB has done it and what evidence they had to prove it.

Seems they had alot.

@c4marcus:

Pros: a range of evidence suggests a clean-up, including lack of blood staining on top of the carpet, but staining underneath. #AprilJones

Pros: on first sight, nothing that would strike eye as evidence of blood. Only emerged after careful scientific examination. #AprilJones

Pros: "What happened to April as she lay bleeding in front of the fire in the defendant's living room?" (cont) #AprilJones

Pros: "One person we say knows, and he’s not prepared to say." #AprilJones

Prosecution have moved on to talking about Mark Bridger's police interviews, which began at 6pm on October 2nd. #AprilJones

@stevenmorris20:

#markbridger appears to be close to tears as prosecution describes what he told police about #apriljones disappearance.

#markbridger told police that he thinks #apriljones would have known him, jury hears.

#markbridger told police they would find "child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬" on his computer. #apriljones

@PaulBentley:

While quizzed on child 🤬🤬🤬🤬, Bridger said his daughter was 'very pretty' and he wanted her to be a young model or actress

'I can promise you she's not alive,' Bridger told police before he was arrested on suspicion of murder

@c4marcus:

When told a witness had seen #AprilJones getting into his Land Rover, he said that account was a "fabrication" and "totally untrue".

Bridger said it would be impossible for a child to have opened the door to his Land Rover by themselves. #AprilJones

@evansma:

Bridger told police they would find child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 images on his computer because he was interested in exploitation and the rights of children.

@JerryLawton:

Bridger said "as a father" himself he would not have dumped #apriljones in the river - would have left her somewhere she would be found

@stevenmorris20:

#markbridger to police in interview: "I can promise you she's not alive." #apriljones

@c4marcus:

@c4marcus:

Bridger told police he would not have put #AprilJones in a bin because "that would have been disgusting". He "would have covered her up".

@PaulyBentley:

Bridger had researched serial killer Ted Bundy on FBI most wanted website, court hears

I wonder if the police did a breathaliser test on him. He seemed to be ok the next morning when he was trying to dump a black bag.

I am mad, he is using the excuse he ran her over, put her on the back seat, then dumped her sitting up somewhere!!!!.

It's showing him up for the liar he is though. His excuses have been ridiculous!

@c4marcus:

@PaulyBentley:

On Ted Bundy, Bridger told police: ‘I never understood it, the relation he had with killing girls, having sex with corpses and the like.'

Bridger had also researched the James Bulger murder, he told police #April

@c4marcus:

When police discussed preliminary DNA results with him, he said blood may have got on bathroom wall from his hands when he went to toilet.

@evansma:

Bridger told police he had pictures of dead children on his computer because he was "disgusted" by them. #AprilJones

During interview he denied he had sexually assaulted #AprilJones telling police "where is the evidence?".

@c4marcus:

When asked about interest in child murder victims, Bridger said it wasn't restricted to female children & he'd researched Bulger case

@stevenmorris20:

#markbridger concluded his police interviews by saying he was sorry, if he knew where April was he would say...so that....

April could be laid to rest; it would help him with the "distasteful accusations" he faced....

And it would stop his children being "victimised" for what he had done. #markbridger appears close to tears.

@c4marcus:

At end of interviews, Bridger said "all I want to say obviously to Paul and Coral (April's parents) that I'm sorry for what happened" (cont)

(Bridger cont) "...and that if in my heart of heart I knew where she was I would tell you." #AprilJones

@c4marcus:

Elwen Evans QC has completed prosecution opening, telling jury it will be for them and them alone to decide if case is proved. #AprilJones

It is worth reminding followers that Mark Bridger denies abducting and murdering #AprilJones, and intending to pervert the course of justice

@evansma:

The #AprilJones trial has been adjourned until tomorrow morning when the jury will go on a site visit of Machynlleth.

@c4marcus:

Tomorrow the jury will visit key locations in Machynlleth, including Mark Bridger's house and the estate from where #AprilJones disappeared.

The bit thats sticking with me is when he said the only place he hadnt looked is down from his house.
Anybody got a map of this scums house?.

He knows damn well where he put her and exactly what he did to her, he just doesnt want everyone else to find out exactly what he did, its one thing murdering a child, but its a whole other level when theres a sexual element and then another level again when you dismembered, tried to burn and then dump the remains without saying where they are.

I doubt he will go beyond admiting she died at his hands.

  • #613
He's truly something else....
And saying he'd tell april's parents if he knew where she was. You know fully well where she is you evil man! He chose to put them through the trauma of a trial instead of pleading guilty and continues to lie to them.

I hate this man. He is truly evil, i would take Jodi Arias over him any day. If he hadn't been caught he would have killed many more.

No need to say sorry - it's a very good summary of the facts, and we all need reminding of them from time to time.

For clarity, my questioning is not so much about the time it took to announce that she was dead (which you've already dealt with above.)
It's more about the scale and length of the search.

I've heard it reported several times over the months that this was the biggest search in UK policing history. Whether that statistic is right or not, I think it's fair to say that they were pulling out all the stops which would imply to me that perhaps the evidence found at Bridger's house is not as clear cut and as absolutely conclusive as they would have liked in order to absolutely guarantee a conviction.

It also continued over a 6 month period straddling a harsh winter. If they were indeed completely convinced of what had happened and that they were looking for "parts" rather than a "whole", surely the effort would have been futile after that length of time?

Please don't think that I'm defending him here.
Even if anyone can be convinced by the car accident defence (which right now would seem to need some sort of miracle), by his own admission he caused her death and combined with the contents of his computer he's an utterly disgusting and despicable individual.
I just think that the evidence against him may turn out not to be quite as clear cut as it would seem to be in these early stages.

I don't think you're defending him :)

In all honesty, I have wondered since he was arrested about the ongoing search - looking at it from a cold hard view it was very costly.

However I can see reasons to search during this time:

-It was winter thus foliage and undergrowth had died back - if you are looking for what were potentially small things then waiting for spring you would have a lot more growth to work through.
- It's always better for a case to have the body of the victim. While the blood evidence they found was probably enough for them to conclude April was dead, proof is better. I've not seen reference to the size of the bone fragments but as they described MB's "extensive" efforts to clean up, my belief is that they couldn't have been obvious or he would have noticed and emptied the fireplace. I think they were found from sifting the ashes and may be too small for DNA testing (especially as they may be all of April the family get back).
- The prosecution have described him as playing a cruel game, and I suspect part of that was dropping hints as to where she might be, combined with where witnesses saw him.

I also have some slightly cynical political thoughts but I'll leave those aside.

All just MO, of course.
