Another weird thing about her parents was the fact she sent her Mum a text to say that Arthur got slapped badly today and put an xx at the end of it. So strange!! U would be putting a sad face if u were in anyway normal not xx. Cold people. Wonder what her brother and sister are like

I think the xx is just a standard sign off. I could be having the worst day of my life, send my mum a massive rant but still sign off with xxx. The only time I don’t put kisses on the end is if I’m texting my sons teacher or my health visitor or I’m having an argument over text. So the xx doesn’t seem strange to me if ET was texting her mother.

The witness replies: "Does it make a difference whether I made it or not?"

Judge Wall intervenes and states Mr Dutton is 'not to argue with counsel'.

Mr Dutton: "I'm not arguing."

Judge Wall: "With respect you are now arguing with me."

Returning to the issue at hand Mr Dutton says: "I thought I had made it (the social services call)."

Mr Richmond puts it to him that his account about the call 'is a lie'.

Mr Dutton: "No it isn't a lie."

He concludes his evidence

He asks why he never included Hughes saying the exact phrase 'I've gone to town on him' and instead used the phrase 'gone too far'.

Mr Dutton insists the phrase Hughes said to him was that he had 'gone to town' on Arthur.

Mr Richmond asks Mr Dutton why his statement says that Karen Dutton made the anonymous call to social services and not himself.

So was it confirmed that Karen made the call?

I don’t know. I think the SS confirmed they only had one call and that was from TH mother.

OK, so did the mother make the call? Or was no call made?? Did they phone NSPCC instead of SS? Surely NSPCC would also have a call log? Did they phone a different SS region?

I feel because the BL thread is so long, it’s hard to scroll all the way back (via phone for myself anyway) to check evidence/timings/calls matching up. I hope a detailed summary is released after to clear some of this up. Someone posted earlier that neighbours had called SS yet I could only remember a neighbour stating they had no concerns on the stand.

I’ve been known to scream in public places also. I remember when one child of mines tried to backflip out of a tree and I screamed “DONT YOU DAREEEEEE!!” There’s a difference between intervening between kids having a tussle or in my case, trying to outperform the circus. And screaming “you f****** c*** I’ll rip your head off.”

I think this man also doesn’t like being pulled up on his “discrepancies”. I don’t know whether that means a call wasn’t placed full stop, or if Dutton wasn’t expecting to be pulled up on his contradictory statement. I really wish I had saved each day as it went along, because this call/non call is really bugging me!

Something about it doesn’t feel true to me because you would remember making the call, why would you say on the stand that it was you that did if it was your partner that made it, you’d just say “I was with my partner when they made the call” …it seems ominous, especially knowing that you are most likely going to be cross examined.

Because also, as a defence witness, he would have been coached by Ms Prior, so I would think she would have gone through his police statement with him before the stand…just speculating though

The more I think of it, the more it feels like a lie to me…the police would have told them their daughter arrested and they most likely would know that there was texts on phones re ‘just had the smack of his life’
The confusion over the call and who made it and discrepancy of what was said in the police statement is possibly a lie to cover their own a*ses when giving the initial police statement, and also that ET would have told them that TH said in the hospital and van that he told the police it was all him?
Otherwise, would SS not have been questioned on why they didn’t follow up an anonymous call about the same child at the same address?

I had to laugh at that first bit!
If you're screaming at your child like that in public (TH, not you!), you've completely lost your moral compass. As an adult I'd be scared if someone shouted at me like that, can't imagine how a child would feel.

Plus their own grandchildren lived there, so if they were worried I think they would have chased it up . I really don’t think that the call was made. The only reference to it is from JD and his police statement. It really sounds like an a*se covering statement to me, with the goal of getting their daughter off the hook…
