As to not look like indifferent people - after all, the family and neighbours are avidly following this case I guess.

I'm talking about them lying about it on the stand. The calls would be logged, their phones would possibly be searched. As in, you'd have to be stupid to lie about it

I think the xx is just a standard sign off. I could be having the worst day of my life, send my mum a massive rant but still sign off with xxx. The only time I don’t put kisses on the end is if I’m texting my sons teacher or my health visitor or I’m having an argument over text. So the xx doesn’t seem strange to me if ET was texting her mother.

Yeah thats true actually, im just not a big xx person on messages. She prob put them on all hers. I would love to know what her Mum said back

But I don’t think they thought it would it would get so far that a lie would be discovered? By saying they made the call anonymously there is always the chance that someone else had made an anonymous call and they could just say “it must have been then” but SS are saying they only had the one call and that was from Mrs Hughes, I don’t think SS would lie about that, they would have logs.

Same, it was such a weird thing to say. Unless her Mum is mad too, and gets a kick out of it and she was bragging to her. Would love to know more about her Mum. Also i would love to know why Emma changed her name from Dutton to Tustin

Plus their own grandchildren lived there, so if they were worried I think they would have chased it up . I really don’t think that the call was made. The only reference to it is from JD and his police statement. It really sounds like an a*se covering statement to me, with the goal of getting their daughter off the hook…

Exactly! Here was a man who was the father of their daughter's unborn baby
Weren't they concerned how said baby would be treated? Would they have stood back and allowed their flesh and blood to be treated like that? It was different though because Arthur wasn't related to them. And he wasn't their problem. Makes me mad!

Returning to the issue at hand Mr Dutton says: "I thought I had made it (the social services call)."

Mr Richmond puts it to him that his account about the call 'is a lie'.

Hopefully the jury will have picked up on this discrepancy and accusation of lying

This is a very good point.
I think they just accepted this little boy sitting like a zombie. Surely, if that wasn't the case they'd have discouraged ET from continuing the relationship. He (step father) said they told her no relationship is better than a bad one. But, I wonder how many times they sat in their company, with their grandkids running about, being spoiled while Arthur sat for hours at the table.

Yes it is a sickening thought.
I think also, would you make anonymous call about your daughters new partner abusing a kid if your own grandkids were living in the house? I don’t think so, I think you would do what Mrs Hughes did and state your name so that you could be updated on the progress.

Fear of being alone/abandonment is a symptom of BPD or DPD. Out of the two I’d say ET has BPD. With NPD or at minimum traits.
