GUILTY UK - Ashley Wadsworth, 19, Canadian, murdered 1st Feb 2022, Chelmsford, Essex *Arrest*

The family of a Canadian teenager who was murdered by her 'possessive' British boyfriend have revealed she had begged her relatives to buy her a plane ticket home before she was brutally stabbed to death.

'Jealous' and 'abusive' Jack Sepple, 23, of Tennyson Road, Chelmsford, Essex, admitted to killing Ashley Wadsworth, 19, at his Essex home just two weeks before Valentine's Day and days before she was due to be reunited with family.

Aspiring lawyer Ashley, who was a Mormon, had upended her 'small-town life' but had been just days away from flying back to Vernon, British Columbia when she was found dead.

But family members told DailyMail.com she had begged them to buy her a ticket home and spoke of Sepple's possessive and abusive behavior in the days leading up to her death.

Detective Superintendent Scott Egerton, senior investigating officer, said: "Today, Jack Sepple has admitted murdering Ashley Wadsworth.

"The evidence against Sepple is so overwhelming that he was left with very few options other than to admit his guilt.

A previous court hearing was told Sepple had been on a bed next to Miss Wadsworth's body when police arrived.

Before I read all this today I was looking at the pictures of the two of them and I could tell something was amiss.

The light had gone from Ashley’s eyes. Her body language appeared hesitant and unsure. He always had her in a tight embrace and her face told all.

Such a shame she couldn’t get away and seek protection until she could get out of there.

So very sad.

MOO

He also looks stoned in all of the pictures. I wonder if that played a part in all this, affecting his mental health and paranoia perhaps.

Appearing at Chelmsford Crown Court today, Sepple was jailed for life with a minimum term of 23 years and six months. He showed no emotion as the sentence was handed down.

High Court Judge Mr Justice Edward Murray told the court that Sepple, who had previous convictions for offences including battery and harassment against his own mother, had displayed a 'clear pattern of violent and controlling behaviour for a number of women'.

The judge added that Sepple had written a note in prison that had 'disturbing, graphic reasons for the killing and how you felt about it'.

Simon Spence KC, prosecuting, earlier said Sepple was 'angered' by Ashley's decision to return home. He then 'both strangled and stabbed' her before he 'went about his daily business'.

He also revealed how Sepple FaceTimed his sister following the killing, adding: 'He went about his daily business, including a FaceTime call to his sister, where he showed her the body of Ashley.

'That’s when the police entered the house. The injuries were horrific and showed an intent to kill.'

How awful that so much was already known about this man's propensity for violence against women before Ashley was even on the scene. He should have had "RUN" tattooed on his face, not "HOPE".

Ashley spent the day with his parents only a couple of weeks before she was murdered. I wonder if things were said to her discreetly that drove or cemented her plan to go home, or whether they were just happy he seemed to be settling down?

''Clare's Law, also known as the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme, came into force in England and Wales in 2014, It means the public can ask police if a partner has previous convictions.

Versions of the scheme also later emerged in Northern Ireland and Scotland.

It was named Clare's Law after Clare Wood, who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend George Appleton in 2009. Similar to Sepple, he had a history of violence against women.

Hailey said she wants our government to make court convictions available through searching for an offender's name on the web, which is what the Canadian authorities offer.''
