No matter whose fault any of this is, it is INEXCUSABLE that this poor boy is being kept away from his loved ones while he is so sick and vulnerable. There is no reason for it at all. His parents, or at the very least, ONE OF THEM, should be allowed to stay with him in his hospital room, while things get sorted out. :cry:

Uh, maybe they lost confidence when the hospital said there is nothing more that can be done for the child. That's not exactly confidence inducing language. What a mess !
But yes it's a very serious concern for ALL parents when these kinds of things happen. I see them on the news more specifically with regards to religious reasoning behind a parent not wanting to do this or that treatment because of their faith . I have faith but I also believe the big guy upstairs made doctors and medicine and science for our use as far as healing goes. So I would never deny treatment to my child to just pray it away. However, that being said, there is a fine line all persons, doctors, parents and patients must walk sometimes . At one point can the state or government over power the parents right? Especially when treatment is ' there is no treatment'.?

Quick personal story, the DH was diagnosed with a ' serious disease' a few years back. The dr recommended a few things, sonogram, chemo and an experimental drug. Experimental drug gave ( im not kidding even though it sounds crazy ) Tuberculosis to a % of people taking it. So, he took his chances and declined all of that. So imagine if instead of a grown man, he was my child of say 10 yrs old. Am I obligated by the state to FORCE a medication on my child that has a risk of another equally or more serious disease than the one he has? So it's not always black and white. I found myself , when seeing these parents on the news who take terminally ill children out of hospitals, saying WTF take your child back for treatment. But should they be FORCED to or arrested? or their child taken? Where is the line? If the parents are not mentally disabled and not on some kind of mind altering drugs, and are making wise and informed decisions, who is to say it is wrong? Scary stuff but we should all think about it .

If there was no evidence of abuse how can this happen? They issued this based on what the hospital might think the parents would do if they were negligent. So if their taking him to spain was negligent, what are the UK courts going to do now - bring him back to the UK for him to die in a hospice without his parents, and farm all his siblings out to foster care? How is that in his best interest? It's not like they were taking him for dandelion pollen therapy or something absurd, they took him for a legitimate treatment, and made sure they had everything he needed for the journey. If Ashya is a ward of the state, does that mean that even if Spain denies extradition for the parents, he will automatically have to travel back to britain when he's well enough?

The King family have a very good lawyer (thankfully!) specialized in Family Law and he is fluent in both Spanish and English.

This was on Spanish TV last night, IMHO it is a pretty good and balanced overview of the case, lawyer is speaking and gives explanations. TV-report also includes the offer of the Czech clinic to treat Ashya ASAP.

Holding up bags of the special food which was administered to Ashya on the journey from the UK to Spain he explained that it was exactly the same as he had received in hospital. "This is the same food, we bought it online and we had a box load," explained Naveed on the video uploaded onto youTube.

He then held up a charger for use in a car.
"We had this power cord which was what the feeding line was on in the car, so he was not starving along the way."

Naveed said his father was constantly researching " to find information that could help Ashya which the doctors ignored".

"They did not want to hear anything about his research as they did not believe any of the information that was being given, saying that the internet could not be trusted," he said

Ashya King: Case under 'immediate review' by CPS

A couple who removed their seriously ill son from a hospital in Southampton have had their case put under "immediate review", the Crown Prosecution Service has said.
Parents haven't been charged with any offense.

For instance, Sweden issued and EAW because they wanted to interview Julian Assange and for reasons unclear to most, said interview can only take place in Sweden.

BRITISH DEPUTY PM NICK CLEGG WANTS TO SEE THE FAMILY REUNITED

Nick Clegg told Sky News it was a "heartbreaking" situation.

"I've got a five-year-old son and the idea of leaving him in a hospital with no contact with parents and siblings fills me, as I imagine it fills all parents, with horror," he said.

"I would like to see the family reunited and then hopefully people can calmly make a decision about what should happen next.

"Throwing the full force of the law at two parents who in a state of despair and anguish are acting they say because that's what they think is best for their child, doesn't seem to me to be the appropriate thing to do."

Former children's minister Tim Loughton wrote on Twitter that the Crown Prosecution Service should drop the case against the family, called on the police to apologise and for the NHS to fund treatment for Ashya.

Respondents Naghmeh and Brett King are obliged by this order:
to present the child for medical treatment at the nearest hospital
to return Ashya to (the jurisdiction of the High Court of) England and Wales
to cooperate with the medical professionals dealing with the treatment of the child in respect of any advice or treatment received from those medical professionals
upon the chil being delivered to the nearest hospital, the parents are forbidden to remove him therefrom without the permission of the Court.

The review of the court order was planned for tomorrow. If this hearing is indeed a review, it comes one day earlier than planned. Different judge too.
