This is great news, I'm pleased they will all be together again.
I'm still angry with the heavy handed approach used here, the poor family have been through so much!
I would like to think lessons will have been learned here, but sadly, I think this goes on more than we know! X

Technically, as far as I understand he's still under wardship, which will be reviewed on Monday, with the parents having to submit a treatment and costs plan by Friday at 2PM (basically what treatment they want and how they're going to pay for it) for discussion and potential authorisation:

I would like the team who decided to contact the police about this family's actions interviewed, under oath, in detail, in public. To explain their actions.
A pipe dream. But I would like to see them squirm. I hope they pay for this.
The Court of Protection in the UK is like something from the Soviet era. Terrifying.
Many families have been destroyed by their Secret Courts with no recourse. Gag orders aplenty

Regardless of the rights or wrongs of subsequent decisions surrounding the EAW, or prior dealings with the family (which, lest we forget, we currently have no unbiased account of), at the point where the parents didn't return from ward leave and were non-contactable, I don't think the hospital had any other choice than to involve the police. As I've said they couldn't exactly just shrug their shoulders and say "eh, he's probably fine."

Together, they have raised over £ 37.000,- sofar.

Ethan's modest goal was £ 500,-.

I believe it was said that proton therapy in the Czech Republic is much cheaper than in the US - 20.000 was mentioned, but in what currency?
It would save the family a lot of travel as well.

Judge wants proof by Friday that family can afford treatment ...... I guess they will be able to do that...

Speaking to the BBC about the latest events, Ashya's brother Danny said his parents were in a state of shock about their experiences.

"[But they are] just happy right now that they can go and see Ashya," he said.

"They didn't understand why so many people were outside, so many reporters, because ever since they've been arrested they haven't been able to look at the news,.

"[My dad] didn't know what to do, didn't know what to think, his only worry was when can we go and see Ashya. My mum is so emotional at the moment."

Treatment could cost up to £40.000

It costs the NHS £100.000 as treatment in U.S.

I should damn well hope NHS covers any treatment costs at the least !

I agree with both of you here .......

Yes the hospital had to report it the police, Ashya was 'officially' admitted into their 'care', therefore they're responsible for him until 'officially' released (discharged?)

But......
Whoever reported this to the police certainly failed to explain the 'whole truth' & led police to believe Ashya was in "grave danger"

IMO 'Whoever' reported* this has some serious explaining to do & to many, many people !

Along with badhorsie I really hope they are made to "squirm" big time !

I do believe 'someone's' ego is behind this entire fiasco :thinking:

Brain tumour patient Ashya King is set to go to the Czech Republic for the treatment his parents wanted him to receive.

The five-year-old's medical records have been sent to the Proton Therapy Centre (PTC) in Prague, which said it had agreed the specialised technique is suitable for him.

Ashya‘s brother Danny, who was allowed to visit him in hospital in Spain, told ITV News the boy was “fine“ and that his condition had not changed since he entered hospital in Malaga where he is being treated.

'I visited Ashya this morning... he was super-thrilled to have someone there with him. He's very unhappy when I leave because he doesn't know anyone else there - there's two police guards and a nurse who don't speak English.'

In an emotional press conference in Spain, Mr King said: They treated us like terrorists. The hospital wanted to kill him, turn him into a vegetable. Would I do it all again? Yes I would."

"The hospital knew I was leaving and going abroad. I told them I was leaving with him. I have no idea why they threatened to put a protection order on him. They wanted to kill our son. What I want them to do now is help them as much as they can as soon as possible. He has not got long to live.

"When I was in my I could hear my wife crying in her cell. I couldn't console her. Our hearts were hurting to see him. Being locked up I couldn't help my son or my wife, I didn't know what the future held, what would happen to Ashya without us.

"They arrested us and took our son without allowing any of us to visit him. My heart is still up here. He needs this therapy immediately. I love my son, without him there is no proper future. He has not got long to live. We want them to help him as soon as possible."

Mr King told of the anguish of hearing his wife crying from his cell in Soto del Real prison near Madrid.

His voice breaking with emotion, he described the couple's desperation to see Ashya because he "hasn't got too many months to live".

Hearing on BBC Radio that Ashya's parents are due at the Spanish hospital any moment now.

On the radio interview, father said they were going to go straight to the Czech Republic for treatment, but then decided to take a holiday in their Spanish home instead. So it sounds like they did have funds already arranged in advance?

The Czech clinic has said that payment can also be made afterwards.
And they planned to sell their house, didn't they?
Either way, the family had prepared the trip with Ashy very well, with food, equipment an wheelchair.

Perhaps there will be no family reunion. Josh has just emailed:

He said on arriving at court: “I’ve come to see him but they won’t let me see him. Portsmouth council has been awarded him ward of court. If I see him then they will arrest me.”

Asked what is his next move, he said: “To be arrested”.

My 2 cents: They will see their child and no one will arrest them.

On a sadder note: IMHO, this father is still in shock and emotions are still sinking in. :sigh::sigh:

Given previous developments in this tale, it feels like there's been another breakdown in communications in past 24 hours.

Good heavens. This is a shambles.

'Amid chaotic scenes outside the hospital, Brett told journalists he would be arrested if he went to see his son, claiming that Portsmouth council had served papers on him yesterday.'

'Asked what was his next move, he said “To be arrested” before being bundled into hospital by five police officers who threw journalists into the road to try clear a path.'

But Ashya has been reunited with his parents, at last. They are still not allowed to take him from the hospital though.
