Charges were brought against the pair, who are from Nigeria, following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime team.

A child has now been safeguarded.

If guilty, what is wrong with people (!) and thank goodness they were caught and the child is safe.

Interestingly, there is an Ike Ekweremadu who is a Nigerian senator, with a wife named Nwanneka Ekweremadu….

"The 15-year-old was given the passport of a 41-year-old in order to get into the UK, but did not know he was there to donate a kidney until he went a hospital appointment"

Wow! I had to read this twice at first. I couldn't believe what I was reading. I am just glad this young boy was not giving his organs in a voodoo ritual that has happened before. I hope this young boy is well looked after. These people should have gone through the right channels to get help for their daughter. MOO

Whether he's 15 or 21 (as the last article linked above states) he was so vulnerable, being homeless and impoverished. Thank goodness the doctor at the hospital is a good one.
Shocking crime.

politician and his wife who are accused of a plot to harvest a man’s kidney after he had been flown from Nigeria to the UK are due to stand trial in May next year.
Ike Ekweremadu, 60, and wife Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55, allegedly conspired to traffic a 21-year-old man so that his organ could be removed and given to their daughter.

The alleged victim is said to have refused to consent to the procedure after undergoing tests at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, north-west London, and is said to have been treated as a slave by the Ekweremadus before escaping.

These perps are not only despicable but stupid too!

In order for the transplant to be successful there must be tissue compatibility and a donor "from the street" is simply silly.

Usually a family member is a donor, and even then one can't be sure of success.

MOO

The UK has to have some of the tightest controls around organ donation in the world, so this was a stupid idea.

Given that the kidney was for their daughter, I doubt they've done this before.

I love Africa, have traveled to eastern and Western Africa and cannot wait to go back. Love it or hate it, obviously poverty is rampant. I'm shocked these people, who almost certainly have very high means, didn't just offer to buy the organ. Neither legal nor ethical but far less terrible than kidnapping someone. I also wonder if money was involved in this deal.
