Will he be allowed to consult his defence for help before he next takes the stand?

The judge made it clear that he would not be allowed to talk to anyone, including his defence team, in the middle of giving evidence.

  • #562
Nope. SaW was not in court.
Is it the case that she is not allowed to hear his testimony and answers as it could influence what she says when is it her turn?

  • #563
I first assumed he meant that "Did you kill her" and "where you left her" to be two questions to trip him up that he might answer yes to the "left her" part of the question.

I think the point of the question was to confuse him. It's a yes/no question. Whichever he'd answered, he would have sounded like he killed her because there were two parts to the question. But instead of objecting that there were two parts to the question, in his confusion he objected that there were two questions.

I’m wondering if the legal submissions might be a request from the defence to ask if the prosecution questions can be asked in a certain way as he has struggled to follow them, and this has caused him stress?? Anyone have any insights for us as to whether that sort of request could be considered?
Not sure. But would have thought they would have needed prior evidence that he perhaps had trouble following things. I am sure most people accused of murder would find it extremely stressful. TBH I was extremely surprised that he is taking the stand .

He actually answers that question- No.
Leakage? he did not leave BW where he killed her?

Exactly. That was my impression. I felt that we now knew that he didn't leave BW where he killed her because he accidentally said so. The prosecutor left a dramatic pause after ScW said that. She was very good with dramatic pauses. He was so self-incriminating at times, that he was doing her job for her, so she didn't need to follow through; she just left what he'd said hanging in the air.

I’m actually increasingly surprised, especially now having read @helenvic’s posts that the police haven’t found Bee.

It seems like they have so much data to go on, so many triangulation points to work from, that it wouldn’t be quite as difficult to pinpoint as it seemed at first. Obviously I understand the practicalities, but I do find myself wondering just how much effort they’ve actually put into the search.

MOO
I wonder if the Police will restart the search when the trial is over? That is supposing that it is not revealed before then.

They were pretty basic questions. And the prosecutor was speaking noticeably slowly and clearly.

That's my take on it. He didn't say "No, because I didn't kill her", he just said no.... How soon after that did he break down Helenvic? From reading your post it seems like he realised that he'd slipped up.

It was quite a while later that he broke down. It was my impression that he realised that he had slipped up.

That would be my guess.

Just some thoughts:

ScW leaves with BW on Saturday 18th July from Dukesmead at 11:06. There is then a gap of 10 mins. His phone records him travelling 11:16-23 through Werrington and into the Gunthorpe and Dogsthorpe areas (I don't quite see how Dogsthorpe fits in unless he's not sure where to go). At some point, but presumably after this, he's on foot in the Gunthorpe area. 410 steps are recorded on his phone which with average steps is about 300m. His phone then switches back on again in Gunthorpe area at 12:54. He could have strangled BW in the car in the 10 minute gap and shoved her into the footwell only to stop somewhere in the Gunthorpe area to hide the body temporarily. Would the Barn Garden Centre be classed as Gunthorpe area? How far beyond the A15 would still ping the Gunthorpe mast?

He then returned in the early hours of the 19th to do a permanent burial, leaving his phone in Uldale Way, which is a short distance to the Barn Garden Centre and the quiet lanes up towards Newborough.

Is it usual for alleged murderers to have breakdowns in court?

Did you leave her where you killed her, Mr. Walker?”
“Sorry?”
“Did you leave her where you killed her, Mr. Walker?”
“No. ... Two questions again.”

The more I think of that question the more brilliant I think it is. If he answers "yes" then he admits he killed her, and if he answers "no" it means he didn't leave her where he killed her. Either way he killed her. He then replies "no" when if he was innocent he would have answered with "I did not kill her".

YES. Of everything that happened yesterday, this was the standout moment for me.

That’s my thoughts exactly! If someone asked me that question I would reply that I didn’t kill them because no means I killed her but moved her and yes means she is where I killed her still

the barn garden centre would not have been opened at this time due to lockdown. However it’s not a place to hide someone, it’s a giant barn full of gardening tools and a gardening section/cafe that would have been long deserted!

I don’t believe they discovered any evidence in the car, so I assume those steps are when it’s happened. So he didn’t go far to do it, must have left her there and then tidied up later.

if so, then the mum would be present on that second trip to cowbit area.

Answering my own question: The phone mast is behind the Barn Garden Centre. So I would guess that a considerable radius around the mast would be classed as Gunthorpe area. There is a fairly solid locked metal gate into field with the mast compound but given the privacy entry to this area would give it would be ideal to leave a body and to return to in the night. There's some very scrubby looking areas to the far side of the field, for instance. Was he sufficiently skilled as a locksmith to get beyond the gate?

this is where the fens are bad for detectives. We have black spots. If you are on 3, good luck getting a signal anywhere near Hampton for example! If this was london, I can guarantee they can get this down to a couple of streets, whereas out here it’s still a big area, hence why the search area is so big.

I honestly don’t know the rest. I don’t think he’s that smart or organised. I suspect the steps are when he’s killed her, and that’s where she remained until the pair of them returned to clean up. Then they called the police and started the missing story.

I would have to revisit the tortoise time line as we have a few dodgy lost times where the phone went off, and several middle of the night trips too.

He was a locksmith as stated in his HIH Maintenance

Perhaps thats why he had to go to lockup - to get specialist tools? Also if he was skilled locksmith if he knew of any abandoned locked buildings in the area??
