Officers continue to appeal for public help after a boy was stabbed in Leicester.

At 5.20pm yesterday (Saturday 18 January) the 10-year-old was in Belper Street with his mother when he was approached by a man who stabbed him before running off from the scene.

A member of the public called emergency services and the child was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham where he remains in a stable condition.

His mother was not injured in the incident.

A cordon which was in place along Belper Street to allow for an investigation has since been lifted.

Enquiries continue to find who was responsible. These include house-to-house enquiries and a trawl of CCTV opportunities in Belper Street and neighbouring Catherine Street and a visible presence of officers on patrol can be seen offering reassurance to the local community.

Detective Inspector Tim Lindley is investigating. He said: “Our investigation to find out who was responsible for injuring this child remains ongoing and we continue to appeal to the public to come forward with any information.

“It happened in a residential area at a time of day when there would have been people about, either on foot or driving through.

“The suspect has been described as a light-skinned Asian man, in his mid-20s, around 5ft 10ins tall, chubby build, and wearing a brown coloured jacket.

“Do you know who this man is or do you recall seeing someone matching this description in the area of Belper Street or Catherine Street between the times of 4.30pm and 6.30pm?

“Was a friend or family member out during this time and returned home in an agitated state or behaving out of character?

“If you have any information about what happened we want to hear from you.

“We also ask anyone with any dashcam footage or CCTV of the area to get in touch.

“I would also like to mention that the family involved have specifically requested not to be approached or contacted at this time while they try to come to terms with what has happened.”

Call 101 quoting incident 437 of 18 January if you can help.
