Experienced Channel swimmer dies after getting into difficulties 16 hours into attempt to complete crossing for second time

• Nick Thomas was attempting to swim the English Channel for second time
• Experienced swimmer set off from Dover, Kent around 5.15am on Saturday
• He got into difficulty around 16 hours later and was taken to Calais hospital
• Endurance athlete, who successfully crossed Channel in 2014, later died
• His family said the 'devoted father-of-two' died 'doing something he loved'
