We are continuing to appeal for information in our search for missing Charles Knight. We are now asking residents in Burghclere and the surrounding areas if they could assist by checking sheds, outbuildings and gardens. We would also like to hear from any residents or businesses with CCTV that could help our enquiries.

The 30-year-old went missing from the Burghclere area at 8.30am last Wednesday, 17 February. Charles is described as being white, around 5ft 8ins tall with a slim build, with dark hair and a beard. He has tattoos on his arms and across his chest. He was last seen wearing a green jacket, black trousers, and cargo walking boots. He was also wearing a green cap.

We would also very much like to thank the public for their response to this appeal, including volunteers from Hampshire Search and Rescue and Berkshire Search and Rescue who have assisted us in our search for Charles. We would like to reassure people that we have professional search teams conducting a thorough search of local areas and would respectfully ask members of the public not to attempt to look for Charles, outside of your own property, themselves. This is so teams can accurately monitor all areas that have been police searched to a professional standard and so potential tracking can be conducted by search dogs.

We again appeal for anyone with information and also ask residents to check their outbuildings for any signs that someone might have been sheltering there or for discarded items. If you can help please get in touch by phoning 101 and quote the reference 44210059947.

Really sad news. RIP Charles and our thoughts go out to Charles’s family & friends.
The body of missing Burghclere man Charles Knight has been found, with his family paying a heartfelt tribute to say he was “truly loved and will be deeply missed”.

Officers were called just after 10am on Wednesday 9 August after human remains were located in a remote woodland near Burghclere.

The remains have been identified as belonging to Charles (Charlie) Knight following formal identification.

Charlie was 30 years old when he was reported missing in February 2021, and despite extensive enquires and police search activity, he had not been located.

Following the discovery of his body, Charlie’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file has been prepared for the Coroner.

His family has today released a new picture of Charlie and said he was “truly loved” by his family and friends.

They said: “We as a family are totally heartbroken by what has happened, but we have each other for support and we’d really like to thank our friends and the community who rallied around us and provided their heartfelt support when Charlie went missing in February 2021.

“For the time being, we are asking for privacy so that we can be together as a family to process our loss.

“Charlie was truly loved and will be deeply missed by so many of his family and friends who all loved him very much.”
